Little Hoots Learning Journey: 🦉

We have had a wonderful few months of discovery and play! From exploring the furthest reaches of the galaxy to the everyday fun of a car wash, the children have been lead learners in our classroom.

1. Reaching for the Stars: Solar System & Space

Our astronauts dived into a massive Space Theme. We painted planets in many creative ways, leading to deep discussions about the universe.
Aistear Link: Exploring and Thinking – Children made sense of the wider world through hands-on investigation.
Activities: We crafted textured "moon rocks" and used tin foil with paint to create realistic craters. We even collaborated on a giant "Friendship Sun" using our handprints.
Síolta Standard: Curriculum – Providing a broad range of creative experiences that spark curiosity.

2. Follow the Child: The "Hot Chocolate" Car Wash

This activity was entirely child-led! After noticing a child using brown blocks to build a "car wash" around his toy car, we brought the idea to life using warm "hot chocolate" water for a sensory washing station.
Aistear Link: Identity and Belonging – Recognizing and valuing the children’s own interests and play ideas.
Síolta Standard: Interactions – Responding to child-initiated play to extend their learning.

3. Real-World Roleplay: The Restaurant & Kitchen

Our home corner was upgraded with real food, allowing the children to take orders and deliver "meals" to their friends.
Aistear Link: Communicating – Developing language and social skills through pretend play and "taking orders".
Síolta Standard: The Environment – Using "real-life" materials to enhance the quality of the learning space.

4. Creative Arts, Baking & Dress-Up

We embraced our inner chefs by making pancakes and buns, and our inner actors during many dress-up days.
Aistear Link: Well-being – Developing fine motor skills through baking and building confidence through creative expression.
