In Ireland, January 6th is often referred to as Nollaig na mBan, or Women’s Little Christmas. Originally a traditional part of the Epiphany In the Catholic Church and recognised as the last day of the Christmas season.
Traditionally a day where gender roles were swapped, the women of the house get a ‘day off’ to relax and meet up with friends while the men take on the duties and responsibilities of home me and children.
Of course these days those gender roles are much less defined, but we are not given up a day that celebrates women and allows us to share in the love, laughter and soul enrichment that comes from powerful bonds of friendship with the women in our lives.
