Hi all, to explain ... every QQI Assessment Period, an External Authenticator looks at your submissions, as a learner, that were submitted on time for the cut-off date for this QQI Assessment period. So what is their role?

In simple terms, the External Authenticator (EA) is an independent person appointed by QQI who checks that assessment results are fair, accurate, and meet QQI standards before your results are submitted.

Think of them as a quality checker for the assessment process.

The EA will typically:

Review a sample of learner assessments
Check that marking has been carried out correctly
Ensure the marking scheme has been applied consistently
Confirm that evidence supports the grades awarded
Check that assessments meet QQI requirements
Review Internal Verification reports and assessment documentation
Identify any issues that need to be corrected before results are submitted

The Lir Team Version 😄
Tutor: "I've marked everything."
Internal Verifier: "I've checked everything."
EA: "Show me the evidence."
Lir Team: "Are they all evidenced?!"
EA: "Good. Now let's check that the marks match the evidence."

Once the EA is satisfied that the assessment process has been carried out correctly, the results can then be recommended for submission to QQI.

So, that is the process. They are submitted before 12 June 2026 and QQI posts out the certs to us mid-late July 2026 and Joan posts them out. The the process repeats itself for the next QQI Assessment period we choose. Had you any idea before?
