St Macartans College, Monaghan, 1980 Class Reunion

My friend and neighbour Brian McAuliffe has organised a live-streamed fundraiser this coming Saturday evening starting at 9pm for MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières) ... a.k.a. Doctors without Borders. MSF, as you probably all know, operate in war zones all over the world and don't take sides - they treat whoever needs to be treated as best they can.
For the fundraiser, Brian has rounded up about 15 or 20 mainly locals including me to sing one or two songs each in Kate O'Reilly's pub in Clarecastle, County Clare . The songs are generally songs based on the theme of peace, anti-war, hope etc. Brian is hoping to raise €5000 and has already raised over €500 in advance of the event.

Most, if not all of the performers are not accustomed to singing solo in front of a crowd and will therefore be somewhat out of their comfort zone doing this. However, when Brian asked we all agreed to do it as we all felt it was for a very worthwhile cause and represented a positive move in a time where we are news-fed a lot of negative news stories.

Oh, I meant to add that La Flynn will also be hearing confessions. So, I guess you'll all have to turn up a day earlier so he can get through us all!

Cousin update: A tour of the school will be done to kick off our evening and there's a class list in the post, the good old, old-fashioned way. Once it arrives, I'll scan it and send to you all.

Got my cousin who teaches at St Macs working on arranging something with the school for the 23rd October. He's also going to see if he can get us a class list but he says record keeping before Pauric Duffy took over as principal was not great! Oh, and he's going to ask La Flynn to say Mass!!!

We have eight fans of this Facebook Sem Reunion page which is about enough to fill the snug in a small pub in Aghabog or Annyalla So if anyone can help track some other former pupils down, we would greatly appreciate it. And we still have to decide whether it's going to be in Dublin or Monaghan. Please feel free to add your thoughts and ideas to this page.
