How To Do Genealogy / Family Trees / find heirs & grow your skills.
Genealogy course over 8 nights will be conducted in Fermoy Education centre starting October 10 th 7.30pm -9.30 pm .Registration October 3rd 7 - 8 pm Contact Looks interesting.Will have a look.. for details.Focus on specific genealogical sources suitable to do research Family histories including online sources. This class is not about how to organize pieces of paper--instead it is about ways to organize information in order to notice patterns, inconsistencies, and overlooked clues. How to analyze pre-1901 census information. Provides an overview of property and lease records, search procedures, and search methodologies .Find heirs, emigrants, homesteads / cemeteries , DNA testing. Reverse Genealogy - Finding current relatives to relatives of long gone emigrant ancestors, Multiple Tips including avoiding common mistakes.
How to arrange Clan Gatherings

Course Content: Break down of what students can expect to learn each night? Students will be guided to search online via the computers provided on different websites each night as well receiving tips how to speed up research and network with others doing similar research.

There is a lot to be learned from the thousands of disused school houses that dot the Irish landscape
Between 1966 and 1973 in Ireland, over a thousand small rural schools were closed. Their numbers are still in decline and their abandoned shapes dot the Irish countryside today, reminding us of a time not too long past. School rolls can reveal a lot.

MITCHELSTOWN CULTURAL FESTIVAL WALK DAY
A diverse group including international visitors attended the successful Mitchelstown Heritage Day on Saturday last conducted by Ballyhoura tour guides Michael Bermingham and Seamus Fox
GENEALOGY TALK:
Clan search gave an informative Genealogy talk in the library on "How to trace ancestors near and far. Interested people sought and received information on their own family histories.

CULTURE WALK
It was followed by a guided culture walk around the heritage town visiting “Galtee”, O'Connell GAA Park. Ice House, Coop’s first cheese plant, Jail, Free Masons House, Skittles game in Tod’s Yard, Park, John Mandeville, Timepiece, Croquet game in Kingston College, finishing with Coffee in Ramble Inn, Weather stayed dry to facilitate this interesting tour Ballyhoura International Walking festival also included various other walk venues.
On Saturday a Half marathon held at Ballyorgan , Kilmallock Town Walk,
On Sunday Kilbehenny walk took off from Galtee Castle wood as did guided walks from Doneraile Park, Lough Gur, Kilfinane Historical town, Labbamolloga townland Walk and Bruff and Knocksouna harvest trail .
It encompassed the Walking Festival , Munster Vales and Ireland’s ancient East as a celebration of Ireland’s Heritage week
It opened with hurling heroes talk at Mitchelstown Library. A photographic display was afforded to the many fans of native game who heard or saw the exploits of cuchulann to memorable encounters with Christy Ring, Austin Gleeson,Tom Cheasty, Ned Power ( former Ballygiblin coach) Mick Mackey, Jimmy Doyle, JBM, Babs, DJ. JJ, Rackard brothers, Pat Hartigan, Paddy Kelly, Pat Heffernan, Mick Houlihan, Eanon Gregan, John Galvin, Paddy Barry, Padraigh Horan, PJ Whelehan, King Henry, J*p Ryan, Micheal O'Hehir, Jamesie O’Connor, Johnny Callinan, John Connolly, Effin Eddie, Lar Corbett. These wielders of the caman surely with many others enriched people’s cultural and sporting lives .

If genealogy research wasn't fun, we wouldn't do it, but it does have its frustrations. Between brick walls and missing records - even pesky living relatives messing with our research because they're "trying to be helpful."
