It’s with great sadness I post the funeral arrangements of our great friend and Best Man Pj.

Sincere condolences to family and friends R.I.P 🙏Pj❤️ love you buddy.

HENEBERY, Patrick Joseph, (P.J.) (Rathmines, Dublin and native Cork) Passed peacefully on the 29th of August, 2026, aged 61, surrounded by his loving family. He lived his life full of love and joy. Orlaith's one true love. Sam and Luke’s adoring and proud dad.

Dearly loved by his parents Richard and Mary Rose, sisters Maureen and Annette, sisters and brothers-in-law and by so many friends and relations from Dublin, Cork, Mitchelstown and London.

Rest in Peace

Reposing at Fanagans Funeral Home 92 Lower Kimmage Road (D6W N279) on Tuesday (Sept 1st) from 4pm to 7pm.

Removal on Wednesday morning (Sept 2nd) to the Church of Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinners, Rathmines (D06 Y9C9) for Funeral Mass at 10 am followed by burial in Mount Jerome Cemetery.

Sincere condolences to family and friends. R.I.P 🙏Eddie❤️

On August 29th, 2026 peacefully at Cork University Hospital, Edward (Eddie), retired Detective of An Garda Síochána, predeceased by his parents John and Nora and his brothers Michael and Declan.
Eddie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Dianne, son Jonathan, wife Sheila, Jonathan’s partner Sarah, grandchildren Harry, Jackson, Jaelynn and Jesse, sisters Margaret, Geraldine, Valeria, Kathleen, Bernie and Angela, brothers Gregory and Larry, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

🇬🇷 GREECE HAS TOUGHENED ITS LAWS ON NGO INVOLVEMENT IN ILLEGAL MIGRATION

Greece has introduced tougher penalties for certain offences involving the facilitation of irregular migration — with NGO membership treated as an aggravating circumstance.

Here are the key facts:

🔴 Facilitating illegal entry or exit
An NGO member convicted of this offence can face at least 10 years in prison and a fine of at least €50,000.

🔴 Transporting undocumented migrants
Transporting an undocumented migrant can carry at least 10 years in prison and a €60,000 fine for each migrant involved.

🔴 Facilitating unlawful stay
Helping facilitate an undocumented migrant’s unlawful stay can carry up to 10 years in prison, depending on the circumstances.

🔴 NGOs themselves can be affected
The initiation of criminal proceedings against a member can potentially result in the NGO being removed from the official government register.

⚠️ But there is an important distinction:
This does not mean that an NGO worker automatically receives 10 years in prison simply for providing humanitarian assistance to a migrant. The law concerns specific offences involving illegal entry, exit, transport and unlawful stay.

The debate is therefore not simply about whether Greece should control its borders — it absolutely has that right.

The bigger question is where the line should be drawn between criminally facilitating illegal immigration and legitimate humanitarian assistance.

🇬🇷 Strong borders and humanitarian principles don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Sincere condolences to family and friends. R.I.P 🙏John (Banjo) ❤️

O’Riordan, (Dublin and Mitchelstown, Co. Cork), August 21st, 2026, peacefully at St. James’ Hospital, in his 83rd year, John (Banjo) late of Jamestown Road, Inchicore.

Beloved husband of Breda and much loved father of Deirdre and Seán. Sadly missed and remembered always by his loving wife and family, his sister Bunty, son-in-law Johnathan, his cherished grandchildren Senan, Breen and Fiadh, relatives and friends.

May John Rest in Peace.

On August 19th, 2026 peacefully in the loving care of all the staff at Mallow General Hospital, Matthew (Mattie), beloved husband of Mary (nee Cooke) and dear father of Tom, Kevin, Diarmuid, Mia and Tracey (Sawyer). Predeceased by his brother William and sister Bedina Fitzgerald.

Mattie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife, sons, daughters, sister Maudie O’Donoghue, daughters in law Noreen, Sinéad and Sue, son in law Pat, grandchildren Kasie, Ríona, Robbie, Muireann, Sadie, Shannon, Shane, Matt and Orla, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

🏛️ CELEBRATING MITCHELSTOWN’S FAIR DAY HERITAGE

For generations, Fair Day was a huge part of life in Mitchelstown — a day when the town came alive with farmers, dealers, livestock, shops, characters, stories and plenty of craic.

As part of Heritage Week, Mitchelstown Library is hosting a special morning celebrating those memories through story, song, old photographs and film.

📅 Saturday, 22nd August

📍 Mitchelstown Library

Local storyteller Terri Ryan will share stories from her own childhood along with memories handed down through three generations of the Ryan family, who ran the Corner Shop in the Square.

She’ll be joined by renowned harpist and singer Noreen Hellen (O’Donovan), who grew up in Newmarket Square and will perform a selection of songs.

🎞️ One of the highlights will be original film footage of Fair Day taken by Terri’s father, James Ryan, along with old photographs and memorabilia.

For anyone who remembers the Fair Days — or for younger generations who would like to see what Mitchelstown was like when the Square filled with cattle, horses, traders and people from all around the countryside — this should be a fascinating morning.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Sincere condolences to family and friends. R.I.P 🙏Mary❤️

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Mary Burke (née Kenny), Old Street, Galbally, Co. Limerick and formerly of St. Fanahan’s Place, Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. Mary passed away peacefully on 16th August 2026 in the loving care of the staff of Maria Goretti Nursing Home, Kilmallock.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Liam, her son Mike, and her infant daughter Marian.

Mary will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her loving children Theresa, Patsy, Willie, Bridget, Kenny, John, Dominic, Finbarr, Caroline and Joe, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister Chrissie, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.

MAY HER GENTLE SOUL REST IN PEACE

Reposing at the Chapel of Peace, Fraser’s Funeral Home, Galbally (E34 AE22) on Wednesday, 19th August, from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, followed by Evening Prayers.

Reception on Thursday, 20th August, into the Church of Mary Conceived Without Sin, Mitchelstown, for 12 noon Requiem Mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
