Congratulations to Pearse, winner of this year’s Kevin Brennan Memorial Cup after a closely fought final against Keithan! 👏

A big well done also to runners-up Jack, Reuben and Abdul, and to all students who took part throughout the tournament.

The competition honours the memory of former MCS Maths teacher Kevin Brennan, a keen chess player who always encouraged students to do their best.

The tournament was a great way for students from different year groups to meet, enjoy some friendly competition and brighten up the lunch breaks this spring. 😊

Today, the entire school community at Millstreet Community School gathered for a special whole-school assembly and guard of honour to bid farewell to our wonderful Principal, Pól Ó Síodhcháin, after eight years of outstanding service, leadership and dedication to our school.
Students and staff lined the corridors to show their appreciation and gratitude for everything Pól has done for MCS during his time here. It was a truly memorable and emotional occasion.
Heartfelt speeches were delivered by Michael O’Donoghue on behalf of the Student Council, Áine Murphy representing the Parents’ Council, Councillor Gobnait Moynihan on behalf of the Board of Management, and our Deputy Principal, Frances Moynihan. Each speaker paid tribute to Pól’s leadership, commitment, kindness and the enormous positive impact he has had on our school community over the past eight years.
Pól has been a fantastic principal, supporter of students and staff, and a driving force behind so many developments and successes in Millstreet Community School. He will be greatly missed by all of us, and no doubt he will miss the MCS community too.
We also said a fond farewell to our much-loved school support dog, Casey, who will continue the next chapter of the journey alongside Pól as they move to Bantry, where he takes up his new role as principal. They will be very lucky to have him.
From everyone in Millstreet Community School — thank you, Pól, for everything. We wish you every happiness and success in the future. 💙

🎓✨ Transition Year Graduation 2026 ✨🎓
Today, the library in Millstreet Community School was filled with pride, laughter and celebration as students, parents and teachers gathered together for our TY Graduation Ceremony.
It was a fantastic occasion marking the end of a truly memorable year for an outstanding group of students. This TY class embraced every opportunity that came their way, creating a year full of “firsts and onlys”, achievements, experiences and unforgettable memories. From performances and projects to trips, teamwork, leadership and community involvement, the group represented the school brilliantly throughout the year.
A huge well done to all of our Transition Year students on everything they achieved. You should be extremely proud of yourselves and of the positive impact you had on school life this year. 👏
We were also delighted to welcome back former student Linda Desmond to speak to our TY students. Linda is a hugely successful amateur boxer who has represented Ireland on a number of occasions and continues to achieve at the highest level of the sport as she works towards future Olympic ambitions. Her story, dedication and encouragement were a fantastic inspiration for our students.
A special word of thanks and appreciation also goes to TY Coordinator Shane Guerin for his dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to the programme over the past number of years. His work and support have helped make TY in MCS such a positive and rewarding experience for so many students.

🎓✨ Congratulations to the Leaving Cert Class of 2026! ✨🎓

Last night, we celebrated a very special milestone as our 6th Year students marked their graduation from Millstreet Community School. It was a wonderful evening filled with memories, laughter, and reflection on an unforgettable journey together.

To our graduating class — thank you for the energy, spirit, and leadership you brought to our school community over the years. We are incredibly proud of all you have achieved and excited for all that lies ahead.

As you begin the final stretch towards your Leaving Cert exams, we wish each and every one of you the very best of luck in the coming weeks. Believe in yourselves, stay focused, and remember how far you’ve already come. 🌟

🇪🇺 TY European Awareness Programme 🇪🇺
Our TY students recently completed the final session of the ICEP programme, promoting awareness and understanding of Europe and European issues throughout the year.
It was a pleasure to welcome Maura Walsh, CEO of IRD Duhallow, along with Kathleen Funchion, who spoke with students about European affairs, community development and opportunities for young people.
The programme gave students a fantastic opportunity to engage in discussion, build awareness of European issues and develop a greater understanding of Ireland’s place within Europe.

MENTOR TRAINING 2026/2027

Twenty one of our Third Year students recently embarked on training to become mentors for our incoming First Years as they begin their journey in MCS this August. 🌟

Each student completed an application process to be considered for the mentoring programme, showing great enthusiasm and commitment to supporting younger students in our school community. 🤝

The four-hour training session was delivered by Kerry Community Youth Services (KCYS), with fantastic facilitation from Jennifer McHugh, KCYS Youth Information Co-ordinator, and Chloe Carey. 👏
This was a wonderful start to the 2026/2027 mentoring programme and we look forward to seeing these students help our new First Years settle into life at MCS.

🌍♻️ Congratulations to Farhan and Taibba on reaching the final of the ECO-UNESCO competition with their innovative project ReThread! 👏
The final took place in the RDS, where hundreds of students from across the country showcased inspiring ideas and projects. Farhan and Taibba represented Millstreet Community School brilliantly, presenting their project with confidence and professionalism.

While they didn’t come away with a prize in their category, reaching the final of such a highly competitive event is a fantastic achievement and one they should be very proud of. Well done to both students on all their hard work and dedication! 🌱✨
