We were delighted to welcome Patricia Mannix McNamara, Director of Human Rights/EDI and Professor of Education at the University of Limerick, to speak with our staff.
Professor Mannix McNamara gave a very insightful and engaging talk on culture in schools and the feeling of belonging that allows members of our school community to flourish within our culture.
Throughout the session, she explored the powerful role that school culture plays in shaping our relationships, wellbeing, motivation and sense of purpose, reminding us that culture is not simply something that exists around us, but something we all influence and create through our everyday interactions.
A particular focus was placed on the importance of belonging, trust and positive relationships. Professor Mannix McNamara encouraged us to reflect on how people experience our school, our conversations and each other, and on the small actions that can help people feel welcomed, valued, respected and connected.
It was a thought-provoking and very worthwhile opportunity for our staff to reflect together on the culture of our school and on the part each of us plays in continuing to build a community in which students and staff can belong, grow and flourish.
