Rafferty Montessori

Rafferty Montessori Rafferty Montessori School is a fully accredited pre-school with a full complement of Montessori equipment. Children are accepted from 3 to 6 years.

Rafferty Montessori has been in been in operation for the past 30 years. Mai is a qualified Montessori teacher with St Nicholas Montessori, Careysford College Dublin, and a qualified Speech and Drama Teacher having studies with the Leinster School of Music and Dramatic Art, Griffith College. She has recently completed a Major Award in Childcare. Rafferty Montessori offers a comprehensive education

for children aged 3 to 6 years of age in a certified Montessori school. Our school has NCIP certification in association with St. Nicholas Montessori Ireland. (www.montessoriireland.ie)
Rafferty Montessori incorporates Montessori methodology and equipment into its pre-school educational programme. “Montessori” is not a system for training children in academic studies but a method of observing and following the interests of the children, and continually adapting the environment from which they learn, by means of experimentation and research, what they need to know in order to contribute to society and the environment, and to become fulfilled persons in their particular time and place on Earth. In Rafferty Montessori our curriculum caters for children from 3 to 6 years. The children enter a prepared and ordered environment. There is no front or back to the classroom, nor do the children have particular desks. The materials are kept on low open shelves where there is intentionally only one of each piece of equipment. This encourages self-discipline, as each child must wait its turn. They are given the opportunity and responsibility of choosing their own work and over a period, the children develop into a kinship, working with high concentration and with few interruptions. The children learn to co-operate and interact successfully with other classmates and with the teachers. The Montessori environment will fully satisfy the requirements of your child’s developmental stages. They will explore the world through their senses and own activity. They will develop a love of learning.

A SENSE OF JOY AND SELF ACHIEVEMENT FOR PUPILS

This has been the hope and aspiration of Rafferty Montessori for the past 36 years. On June 27th the school will close to the Montessori Method as I am retiring. But the speech and drama classes will remain as will the work with individual pupils.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the parents of Killavullen, Annakissa, Castletownroche, Ballyhooly, and the hinterland around the school for their support over the past 36 years. Back then, a Montessori school in rural Ireland was rare, but the parents embraced the concept and supported the school. Thank you to the many Montessori Assistants who travelled the road with me.
May I wish this year’s pupils and those who have been with me over the course of the school’s life, health, joy and happiness. This is where my life has arrived and I look back with graciousness and thanks.

We've been busy in the last few weeks. We fed the birds outside the door, planted our spring onions, coloured our spring flowers, checked on our height, had a look at the moon, the clouds and the stars, had pancakes (thanks Peter), and declared our love for Valentine's Day. Phew!!!
