Hedgestown NS, Lusk Hedgestown is a beautiful school in a rural setting in Lusk, with a wonderful ethos, small class sizes, wonderful students and very dedicated staff.

This year we added a new After School Club and the reaction of parents and students has been overwhelming.

To celebrate Mental Health Day, all classes spent time this week focusing on the importance of looking after our mental health as we do our physical health. The stimulus used to introduce the topic was 'Under the Mask', a child friendly book written by a primary school teacher and recommended by Pieta House.
The story focuses on 3 superheroes who teach children how to 'activate their superpowers' (coping mechanisms) to deal with anger, sadness and worry. It also points out how everyone feels these emotions and that it is ok to feel them, which can be important for children to understand.

Children from 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Class had a great time at Athletics in Newbridge Park yesterday. The boys and girls enjoyed the events and Mrs Murphy and Mr Hagan were delighted with the enthusiasm and effort shown by all who attended.

Buddy Bear joined the Infants as they made the best of the good weather and enjoyed some outdoor learning and play today. He played in the sand pit, made porridge in the mud kitchen and went butterfly hunting around the flowers. After taking a break on the Buddy Bench some children surprised him with a house that they had built for him before inviting him for a picnic lunch with the class at the new benches.

Another busy week over in Hedgestown.
Our After School Club is getting more popular by the day, more Infants were delighted to join this week and stay for sibling hour until their older brothers and sisters finished at 3pm.
We still have spaces in most classes so we would encourage any families in the area who may be in need of a school place to please get in touch with Principal Annemarie Sharkey at 01 8438372 to arrange to come and see the school.
