Sunflowers is a small, friendly, home from home childcare service, based in leafy Ballyowen Lane, Lucan. Established in 2003, it is family owned and run, with the owners Lynn & John O’Dwyer living on site. We offer full and part-time care for children from 12 months to 5 years, plus sessional ECCE pre-school for children under the government free ECCE preschool scheme. We also have a breakfast clu
b and after school’s club catering for children aged 4 to 12 attending local Lucan National Schools. We adhere to the 2016 Childcare Regulations throughout our service. All our staff are qualified to at least FETAC/QQI Level 5 and hold up to date occupational and/or paediatric First Aid qualifications. Lynn O’Dwyer, one of the owners, is a qualified Dietitian. We also provide all of our parents with copies of any HSE inspection reports that have occurred. (These reports are also available to any prospective parents.) We follow a play based, “Aistear” led curriculum. Children begin in our wobbler room, with lots of opportunities for sensory and physical play. They also have regular access to our safety surfaced outdoor play area, for lots of energetic crawling, wobbling and toddling. Children then move into our junior playschool room and will have many opportunities for Arts and Crafts, role play, messy play, outdoor play, singing and dancing. They then progress to our preschool class where we will help to fully round their pre-school play, education and development prior to starting National School. We also run a (morning) sessional ECCE pre-school room (09:30am – 12:30pm) which caters for children in their 2 years before beginning National School. This service, funded by the DCYA, is completely free of charge to parents. We provide local school drop offs and collections and run a very lively after-school’s Club. All of our “schoolies” receive a hot nutritious meal, supervised homework and have access to our large, secure outdoor play area. I
