Shireen’s Comeback ⚽

When Shireen injured her knee, she had the clear goal of wanting to get back to playing football

After a couple of sessions in person, we switched to working together online. I progressed her rehab week by week, focusing on regaining her knee range of movement, and gradually building up her strength and her confidence in the knee

Shireen was super consistent and stuck to the plan every week, and she’s been an absolute pleasure to work with over the last couple of months

She’s now back playing football and is absolutely smashing it! 🙌🏻

She came in recently for a check-in so we could take things to the next level and her knee is doing brilliantly. Now I’m really excited to keep working together and see her continue to get stronger and reach her goals 💪🏼

Let’s go Shireen 🔥

Even when your tendon is really flared up, it still needs to be loaded. Isometric holds are a great way to keep loading it gently, and can help ease the pain and give you some relief.

Try these:

1. Single leg seated calf raise. Push down more through your toes to increase the load

2. Double leg standing calf raise (when the seated version feels easy)

3. Single leg standing calf raise (when two legs feels easy)

Hold for 30 to 45 seconds, 3 to 5 times with about 2 minutes rest. You can do these daily.

Some discomfort up to max 5 out of 10 is ok. If it feels the same or better the next morning, your tendon is coping well with the load. If it feels worse or way stiffer, ease back a bit.

Huge well done to Jacqueline on completing the Belfast Half Marathon! 🏃‍♀️🎉

Jacqueline came to me dealing with an Achilles tendinopathy which has been giving her a lot of bother.

She missed the Belfast half marathon last year due to injury and was determined to complete it this year!

So instead of pulling her out, we worked out a plan to help her get through it safely, with targeted strength exercises to support her ankle and manage the load through race day.

She messaged yesterday and let me know that her ankle held up during the race 🙌🏻

Now that the race is done, the goal will be to get that Achilles properly rehabbed for the long term.

Buzzing for you Jacqueline!!

He came to me after 10 months of back and hip pain, and had stopped training out of fear of making things worse

On assessment, we identified a clear pattern of pain, specifically at the initiation of a hip hinge, alongside tenderness and restriction through the hip and lower back

Manual therapy targeting the affected soft tissue reduced that tension and restored range of movement and decreased pain

Alongside manual treatment, he left with education on returning to the gym safely and a plan to rebuild strength and confidence in the movement patterns that had been causing him trouble

This was after just one session, and we’re not done yet. He’s back in soon to continue with further manual therapy and progressive exercise, and this is a fantastic start to that process 🙌🏻

If you’re dealing with something similar and want a proper assessment, book in via the link in my bio or send me a DM and let’s have a chat 😊

Tendons need to be loaded to heal, but it’s important to get the balance right ⚖️

One simple way to check if you’re loading a tendon correctly during rehab is to track your tendon’s 24 hour pattern

A bit of discomfort during or straight after loading is normal and is not necessarily a bad thing

What’s more important is how it responds after this, particularly the next morning

If it is more stiff or painful, then it usually means you did a bit too much

If it settles back to normal after loading, then you’re likely in the right zone and you may be able to increase your loading next time

This is a simple way to self monitor if you are rehabbing a tendinopathy 🙌🏻

💾 Save this if you are currently working through a tendinopathy
