If you have a little one who is nervous about going back to school after the holidays. Here are a few little pocket-sized ideas that might help!

Pocket Promises:

Write out little promises of treats for your child (for example, an extra bedtime story, a family movie or puzzle night, homemade popcorn, trip to the park or playground, they can pick their favourite dinner) and put them in a jar. Every morning your child gets to pick out a pocket promise and cash it in when they get home from school.

Pebble in my Pocket:

Find two very similar pebbles, gem-stones or crystals. You keep one in your pocket and the child keeps the other in their pocket. Tell them that any time they feel a little nervous or are missing you they give their pebble a little squeeze. It is a very concrete reminder of their connection to you. [Some alternatives to a pebble that they might like to keep in their pocket are a little photo of mum/dad/family, or a hankie with your perfume/aftershave on it]

Worries in My Pocket:

Talk to your child about any worries they have about starting school. Write the worries down on pieces of paper. Then you put the pieces of paper in your pocket. Tell your child you are going to carry their worries for the day while they are in school, so they don’t have to carry them alone. This can really help to ease any fears they may have.

Starting primary school is a big step for children — and for parents too.

This session will support parents with practical ways to help children feel more confident, secure and ready for the move from Early Years to primary school.

We’ll look at everyday things that can make a real difference, including:

• Building confidence and independence
• Supporting your child emotionally through the transition
• Helping with routines for the school day
• Encouraging practical skills like managing lunchboxes, coats and belongings
• Strengthening the connection between home, Early Years settings and school

Louisburgh GAA are delighted to announce that a very precious trophy will be coming to Louisburgh on Wednesday evening 19th of August from 5.30 pm until 8pm approximately.

The Sam Maguire cup might even be accompanied by a couple of All Ireland winning players all going well.

This is a wonderful event for the club and our community. We know that the attendance is likely to be large, so we would appreciate if people could walk up from the village where possible as parking will be limited.

There is an U16 LGFA match taking place on the grounds at 7.30pm so please be respectful and mindful of that fixture also.

There will be stewards to direct people in terms of the queueing system and parking etc & your patience is appreciated.

Our thanks to Mayo GAA county board & the players for facilitating the visit.

Could you be eligible for a higher National Childcare Scheme (NCS) subsidy?

From 31 August 2026, changes to the NCS income thresholds mean that more families may qualify for an Income-Assessed award. If you currently hold a Universal award, you can use the NCS Subsidy Calculator to estimate your entitlement. If the Calculator shows that you could receive a higher rate, you can choose to apply for an Income-Assessed subsidy. Visit www.ncs.gov.ie to learn more.
