A second class of City and Guilds learners also commenced in the forge this week. This group will work with James until May 2027. This week they have completed their safety briefing and are settling into the forge. Wishing them the best on their blacksmithing journey here at the Blacksmithing Centre of Excellence at College of FET Cappamore Campus.

All fires are blazing as we kickstart the 2026/2027 academic term in the forge. Best of luck to this group of City and Guilds learners who begin their blacksmithing journey with us here at College of FET Cappamore. Eric will guide them over the year to develop and learn new skills required for the craft.

Our Heritage Week project at College of FET Cappamore Campus was to restore this wrought iron locally forged gate,owned by John Hasset.

The gate needed 8 iron rivets replaced along with some of the finials being squeezed to allow proper alignment. Some of our past City & Guilds learners came down and joined in on the project,along with our special guest Pat Murray. The gate was restored ready for paint and hopefully its good for another 100 years.

This gate was a product of McGuires forge Murroe,so we were all happy to be involved in this local restoration project
