A huge welcome to the first-ever Direct Entry Medicine BMBS students at UL School of Medicine

This week, our new students were welcomed by Prof. Colum Dunne, Head of School, along with members of the academic and administrative teams as they began their journey at UL.

The week was packed with icebreaker activities, programme talks, new friendships, a tour of Limerick, and a campus scavenger hunt, giving students a chance to get to know each other and explore their new home on campus.

We're delighted to welcome you all to the School of Medicine and can't wait to see what you'll achieve over the coming years.

Our new Graduate Entry Medicine cohort was warmly welcomed during orientation taking place this week, with inspiring addresses from the Head of School, Professor Colum Dunne, alongside Faculty members and PMSS staff who play a key role in supporting the programme.

Orientation provides students with an opportunity to connect with the team, learn more about the journey ahead, and begin building relationships with their classmates and future colleagues.

The Inaugural Irish Blue Light Awards ceremony recently took place where Dr Niamh Cummins (Associate Professor in Public Health, School of Medicine) was honoured to accept the "International Best Practice Award" on behalf of the Irish Paramedicine Education and Research Network (IPERN).

The Blue Light Awards recognise the vital contribution of frontline emergency, security and Blue Light services across Ireland, including statutory, voluntary and community-based organisations.

Dr Cummins is the Founder and Chair of IPERN - an inter-professional volunteer network dedicated to building research capacity, education, and collaboration in out-of-hospital and emergency medical care in Ireland and internationally.

The Blue Light International Best Practice Award honours individuals or teams who have set a benchmark for global excellence in frontline emergency services. It recognises those who have demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and innovation, advancing the Ireland Blue Light & Frontline Emergency Services community on the international stage through outstanding best practices.

Congratulations to Dr Cummins and all of the IPERN Team on receiving this recognition which is particularly special as IPERN marks the milestone of celebrating their 5th anniversary this year.
