Mary Immaculate College’s Fourth Year Media and Communications Students will be screening their completed documentaries (and advertisements) upstairs in Dolans Warehouse at 7.30pm on Thursday, April 30th.
There are six documentaries this year, each approximately 17 minutes long.
The Department would warmly welcome one and all to attend an event that has become synonymous with celebrating the student’s hard graft over the last four years and is both a celebration and a farewell to the soon-to-be graduants.
Topics this year cover the following:
An Teango Bheo – The Rise of the Irish Language tells the story of the Irish language—where it’s come from and where it’s going. From decline to revival, it shows how a new generation is bringing Irish back to life. It’s a fresh, honest look at a living language finding its place in modern Ireland.
Being Me centres on Allana, a student at Mary Immaculate College, as she shares her experience of living with ADHD and Asperger’s. Her story brings attention to the unseen, everyday struggles of neurodivergent life and the challenges that often go unnoticed.
Our Farm explores the lives behind two family-run Irish farms, offering an intimate portrait of tradition, resilience, and community in modern rural Ireland. The documentary captures what is at stake for small family farms today, while reflecting on cultural importance, honouring the past and the hopes these families hold for the future of Irish agriculture.
Electric Boogaloo focuses on the nostalgia of the 90’s and 00’s generation growing up with physical media and seeing its evolution, decline and resurgence. The piece is conversational interspersed by expert voices and references to the media that raised our generation.
Slainte – Nightlife in Limerick captures three sectors of the nightlife of Limerick through a poetic lens. The documentary gives an insight into the various atmospheres that the city of Limerick has to offer, before, during and after dark, from a cosy pub to a chatty cocktail bar to a music gig at one of Limerick’s most popular venues.
And finally, Travel, Tents and Tenants - A Student Survival Mocumentary follows a documentary crew exploring the realities of student life in Ireland, capturing the strange, chaotic, and often hilarious ways students are forced to live. From overcrowded houses to endless commutes and even life in a tent on campus, each story reveals a different side of the struggle. Beneath the humour lies a sharp look at the very real pressures facing students today.
