UL Student Life UL Student Life is based in the Student Centre. We are here to advise, support, and represent students.

UL Student Life has 4 elected officers to represent your President, Welfare Officer, Academic Officer, and Communities Officer UL Student Life is the representative body for 15,000 UL students. Students automatically become members of the Union upon enrolment, and from that day on the three sabbatical officers (President, Welfare, Academic Officers) as well as the part-time members of the Union's

Executive Committee, do their best to represent and help you with any problems you may have during your time in college. UL Student Life represents you both within and without the University, as well as providing you with services such as a fortnightly newspaper, welfare and academic advice, a common room, a games room, clubs and societies and much more.

Last week, your Student Officer team joined a protest outside the Department of Justice in Dublin to stand with Palestinian students from Gaza who have been offered places at Irish universities but are still waiting for their visas or have had them refused.
 
At the protest, Cuán, your Diversity & Inclusion Officer, read a statement from a Palestinian student whose future is being put on hold because of these delays.
 
Every student who has earned a place at an Irish university deserves the opportunity to study here.
 
We have contacted Minister Jim O’Callaghan and the Irish University Association and are currently awaiting their response.
 
We continue to call on Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan and the Department of Justice to urgently resolve these visa issues so these students can begin their studies in Ireland.

Gazan student visa's have been denied for reasons such as 'not supplying original bank statements, a failure to account for gaps in their education, and a failure to supply strong evidence that they will return home once their course of study is completed.' 

In reality, these students are coming from a country torn apart by genocide, where most of these documents have likely been destroyed.

Appeals to these denials can only be expressed by written post, but Gaza currently not does have an internationally recognised postal service in operation. 

Our officer team are joining solidary groups at a protest outside the Dept. of Justice tomorrow to call on the Minister for Justice and the Minister for Further and Higher Education to work together to ensure that these students can complete their scholarships.
