We offer hands on involvement to people in a creative imaginative way that facilitates their engagement with Limerick’s splendid environment with deep multiplier effect. Key Ilen Projects Underway
CITY ONE LIMERICK
We have succeeded in assembling a world class team of experts, led by Theo Rye, to design the new City One Limerick sailing boat to the highest contemporary standards. Already the kee
l of the prototype is laid, and some of the world’s finest
craftsmen from New Zealand, North America and elsewhere have arrived and are working away in the Ilen Boat Building School working in conjunction with Limerick’s boatmen and the vital energies of the young people of Limerick, particularly those who live beside the river, and whose forbearers knew and loved it well. The sails of this fleet will each be a canvas for a visul art river exhibition. Work on
consultation and development of this programme continues. GANDELOWS
By mid April, from their chrysalis stage will emerge another four splendid full size Gandelows to take to the waters of the river and estuary, prior to immediate migration to the lagoon of Venice on the First of May. Here, in waters vaguely
similar to those of the Shannon estuary, and in conjunction with the enthusiastic rowers of Venice, we will race the Gandelows from the Ca’ Grande to Burrno. This will be the first of the 2014 Gandelow Races; the second and third will take place in Limerick. THE ILEN SHIP
We hope this year to bring significantly closer the day she sails, in all her elegance, back to Limerick her home. Learn more at http://www.ilen.ie
