Research Ireland Fellow Dr. Megan Vine delivered a guest lecture exploring the complex meanings of diversity and belonging for psychology students this week. Following the lecture, students from the programme organised a food sharing event, showcasing treats from different cultures for attendees to enjoy. The event created a space for reflection, connection and celebration of diversity within the TUS community.
Organised by Dr Arlene Warde and Dr Éadaoin Slattery from the BSc in Applied Psychology programme team, Limerick.
Supported by the Project Fund.

Another great guest lecture in the Psychology of Activism module in Year 1 with this week, featuring Trish Lehane.

Trish holds a science degree from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) and a physics degree from the University of Limerick (UL). She worked in industry for 14 years, initially in the semiconductor sector and later in the development of military and defense electronics.

During this time, she developed a keen interest in understanding human behavior and the dynamics of legal systems, particularly after navigating the family court process, which involved six years in the High Court. This led her to pursue a degree in psychology at Dublin City University (DCU), followed by a Master’s in Psychology at the University of Limerick, from which she graduated earlier this week. Her Master’s research focused on addressing the gap in the literature on the psychosocial factors predicting the quality of life of adults with scoliosis in Ireland.

Trish is a board member of the Clinical Ethics Service for Children’s Health Ireland, serves on the Scoliosis Patient Panel for Children’s Health Ireland, and is a founding member of the Brigid’s, an advocacy group dedicated to representing and supporting survivors of violence and abuse. Trish’s lecture this morning focused on coercive control and current legal responses in Ireland.

The To***co, Alcohol and Gambling research group in Social Sciences ConneXions is conducting a pan-European project on young people’s perceptions of alcohol marketing. We’re currently seeking males, age 18 or 19, to take part in online interviews. Each 30 minute interview will be anonymised and confidential, and will ask for opinions/experiences connected with alcohol marketing on social media. At the end of a completed interview the participant will receive €15 via Revolut to thank them for their time and input.

Interested? Email [email protected] to find out more. You don’t need to be a TUS student to take part.

We spent a very interesting hour with Anna O’Brien yesterday, discussing the road she took to become an assistant psychologist here in Ireland. Lots of great advice about volunteering, finding your path in , and working in care settings to get experience as an undergrad. Thanks so much to Anna for taking the time out of her busy work day to share her expertise and experience with our 1st year students.
