The ITAJ team were delighted to present to the Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community today to discuss our research. We focused on Travellers as victims of crime; the pipeline to prison (including, for example, racial profiling); search of Traveller homes; and trust in the criminal justice system generally. Absolutely delighted and grateful to receive the University of Limerick President's award for Excellent Research with Impact. Our Irish Travellers Access to Justice Research (2022) won the Research Output Award (Interdisciplinary).

Concluding observations, UN are concerned "in interactions with law enforcement including through racial profiling and unwarranted home searches, as well as the over-representation of Travellers in all parts of the penal system (arts. 2, 24, 26 and27) and that "members of the Traveller and Roma community as well as persons of African descent are particularly targeted by systemic discrimination and racial profiling". Concerns on Mincéirí/Travellers and Roma below.
