⛳️⛳️Golf Society Update⛳️⛳️
Last month, Letterkenny Golf Club played host to our final outing of the 2025/26 year when we were joined by Cllr. Terry Crossan, Chairperson of Donegal ETB and Anne McHugh, Chief Executive, for the presentation of prizes. They both spoke and commended all involved in the Golf Society and congratulated the prizewinners.
Captain Breid thanked both and Donegal ETB for the annual support for the Society and especially for being present on the day. Breid also congratulated all the prizewinners on the day and throughout her year as Captain. Breid also thanked Cynthia Furey for arranging our booking and Noreen and her staff in Hunter’s Bar & Restaurant for the excellent quality of food and hospitality provided.
The overnight rain thankfully gave way to a dry afternoon, and the course presented its usual challenges for our members chasing the final Major of the year, Cllr. Terry Crossan’s President’s Prize. Deirdre O’Toole mastered the playing conditions and amassed 36 points to win the coveted President’s Prize, 4 points clear of runner-up, John McIvor on 32 points. Danny Conaghan on 31 points, Jim McGlynn on 30 points and John Bosco Gallagher on 26 points made up the top 5 prizewinners. Winners of the first and second nines competitions were our newest member, Catherine Cannon on 15 points and Tommy Greally on 15 points.
- Golfer of the Year -
In the Golfer of the Year, John Bosco Gallagher came into the final outing with a commanding lead following his consistent play throughout the year and finished on 98 points. The race for runner-up was closer with John McIvor edging it with a good final round score to finish on 68 points.
- Mary Ann Kane Magnificent 7 Memorial Trophy -
This competition is based on the cumulative Stableford scores gained over the course of the season at “Signature” Holes chosen by our Captain at each outing. With two holes to count at the final outing, Patsy McVicar came through to win on 15 points from runner-up Paddy Kelly on 13 points.
Thus concluded another successful year and Captain Breid looked forward to our AGM in August and passing the reins to her successor, Tommy Greally and wished Tommy every success and enjoyment in his year as Captain.
