The Archive is situated on Sentry Hill opposite the upper Cathedral car park.

Meet a soldier from the Battle of Scariffhollis,
Newmills, 1650. Historian/Cartographer, Tomás Ó Brógáin, Oireas Historical Services will demonstrate weaponry and costume and bring to life the turbulent period in North West Donegal from 1641-1650 during the Cromwellian War.

There will be great excitement in Rathmullan tomorrow, Saturday 16th June, with the visit of the Peruvian Consul, Alberto Gonzales. The Rathmullan Peru Supporters Club has adopted Peru as their chosen team to win the World Cup. The Consul and his companions will be greeted at the village square at 3 p.m. Parish Priest Fr. Martin Collum said Rathmullan will turn completely red and white for the weekend. The Peruvian flag will be raised just before kick-off at 5 p.m. and will remain flying while they are still in the competition. Fr. Collum, one of four priests from the Raphoe Diocese who went Mission there, has a long and close connection with Peru. He spent 15 years in Lima, their Capital City. Ireland has a long association with Peru, many immigrants finding a home there during and after the Famine period. President Michael D. Higgins paid a recent official visit to Peru which opened its Embassy in Dublin last year.

As part of Cathedral Quarter's St Patrick's Day Celebrations Raphoe Diocesan Archive will be open to the public for viewing from Monday 12th to Thursday 15th March 11.00 - 4.30. Our Archive, Museum and Library first opened in June 2000 where Dean John Silke (d. 16.01.2016) Paddy Friel (d.25.12.2016) along with numerous other volunteers too many to mention have spent many years filing,cataloging, collecting and researching the material. Our Bishops' correspondence start from Bishop Patrick McGettigan (1820-1861) though Dean Silke has written and collected much information on the local history of the diocese and the county from as early as the 5th century.
