Thank you to everyone who supported the School Coffee Morning recently by attending and sending in donations and baked goods on the day. It’s very much appreciated in aid of such a worthy cause. We were delighted to take part this year in the ‘Love Where You Live’ competition. Thank you to Leitrim County Council and the judges who visited our school for organising such a valuable initiative. Today students were awarded a plaque and €250 prize for their project entry on Climate Action.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was the opportunity for students to learn beyond the classroom. Some of the richest learning experiences come from engaging with local people, listening to their stories, and gaining first-hand knowledge of the place we call home.

We were also delighted to welcome Padraig Fallonwho visited the school to congratulate the students on their achievement and has encouraged them in their projects this year.

Congratulations to all involved on this fantastic accomplishment and for being such positive ambassadors for our school and community. A wonderful way to round off the school year! 🎉👏🌍

We are so proud of our young scientists! ✨
At the recent STEMtacular STEM Fair, our students won the Environmental Award for their investigation into landslides, inspired by learning about a local landslide in 2020. They investigated what causes landslides and developed a prototype for an early warning system on peat slopes. They showed real curiosity, teamwork and determination throughout the project, and it was wonderful to see their excitement when their efforts were recognised.

A big thank you to the event organisers for such a brilliant and inspiring day. We all had a fantastic time! 👏

Our Senior Class students recently took part in an inspiring creative writing workshop with children’s author Anthony Garvey. The workshop sparked imagination and gave students the chance to explore their own voices as writers. Two of our students placed in the Top 6 finalists of Anthony’s short story competition — a great achievement! 👏 They were thrilled to receive signed copies of his books. The students loved the session and are excited to keep developing their creative writing skills. Well done again to all students involved! 📚

Our warmest congratulations to Rachel on her appointment as Principal of Lough Allen College. As a former pupil here her achievement is a proud moment for the community. We know she will be warmly supported as she takes on this role and we wish her every happiness and success in the years ahead.

Lough Allen College is delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs. Rachel Shannon as Principal.

Mrs. Shannon began her teaching career in 2007 as a teacher of French and English. She was appointed assistant principal in 2017, acting as Additional Educational Needs Co-ordinator in recent years, a role fulfilled with great energy, and care.

Rachel’s dedication to creating a supportive environment where every student feels safe, seen and valued makes her well-placed to lead Lough Allen College.

As a native of the area, she looks forward to leading all aspects of school life as well as building strong ties with the local community and strengthening these connections.

We warmly congratulate and wish her every success as she commences her new leadership role in Lough Allen College.

We were delighted to welcome members of our local St Vincent de Paul Society to our school. They spoke to the students about the history of the charity and the work they do in our community. The students really enjoyed learning more about the importance of local charities. Our school community then put together food donation boxes for distribution by SVP before Christmas . A huge thank you to our families for their generosity and to St Vincent de Paul for visiting our school and for all the wonderful work they do.
