Three Sisters rehearsals. 🎭

A talented cast of Echo Acting students will perform an abridged version of Three Sisters, the poignant masterpiece by Anton Chekhov at on April 20th.

The story follows the Prozorov family, longing to escape their provincial town and return to Moscow.

As love affairs falter, ambitions fade, and change sweeps through their lives, they confront hope, disappointment, resilience and enduring family bonds.

An outrageous outsider has taken over the Irish islands and recruited a crew that is known as the island mafia. A family of outcasts, criminals, clowns and theatre folk - and those who enjoy a good session of D'n'D. A family you wouldn't betray. Except...

It is rumoured that the mafia is gathering at Hyde Bar on 24th of March at 7pm because there are traitors in the family.

You have been invited, because the head of the family wants to find out who can be trusted - and who needs to swim with the fish. The only person she relies on - besides the flocks of sheep she cares for on the island to provide for the family - is her psychic who'd never betray her.

Join for a evening of treacherous fun and compete for a prize given to the most loyal family member - or the traitor who manages to avoid detection.

All funds raised will help pay the talented teams behind two Galway-based theatre productions ‘Sheep!’ and ‘Is This Bathroom Haunted?’

Thank you Cornelius Dwyer for an excellent stage combat workshop at last week’s class.

We learned the PEAR:

Prepare – This is the step where you and your scene partner get into position. Establish a physical sign
that ye are ready to begin the maneouver. Remember that ye are on stage and are allowed be big, try to
agree on something that is obvious to both of you. A raised hand is better than a sly wink or a small nod of
the head. It doesn’t matter if one sly audience members spots the moment, it matters that you are both safe and on the same page.

Evade – The evade comes before the attack because the person who is in danger is the one leading the
dance. Once you are both in position and ready this is the first step of that dance. Evade is the movement
that the defender makes to sell the attack and it comes first just to make sure they are out of the way of the incoming attack. Remember the sound and your acting are what sell the hit, don’t confuse recklessness for bravery. GET OUT OF THE WAY .

Attack – This is, ironically, the easiest step. The person doing the hit does the hit. This is also where the knap happens, the sound that sells the hit. If that attack comes within 2 inches of the defender then you’re probably too close.

Reset – This is the step where you make sure everything went okay, you get back into a neutral position and then you continue on the scene. This doesn’t mean “go back to where you were” necciseraly, it’s mostly about taking stock of the moment and making sure everything is okay before continuing on.

Thank you Órla Mcgovern for facilitating such a brilliant improvisation workshop. We learned a lot & had a lot of fun while challenging our preconceived ideas about improv.

What an amazing start to 2026 classes!

In our first ‘Imaginative Acting’ class we returned to our foundations focusing on given circumstances during scene work.

We asked ourselves :
Who am I?
Where am I?
What time is it?
What do I want?
Why do I want it?
How can I get it?
What do I have to overcome to get it? (barrier in objective)
