Principal’s Message

Kilrush Community School was founded in 1992 as a result of the amalgamation of the Mercy Convent Secondary School, the Christian Brothers’ School and the Vocational Education Committee School. From the outset, our aim in the school has been, and is, to ensure that a happy, secure learning environment is in place for students of all abilities where they can achieve their individual best. The school stands on the triumvirate of students, staff and parents working in co-operation in order to deliver on our Mission Statement and Aims.

Today, some of our students, as well as staff, from Cooraclare National School paid a visit to meet the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class, and to remind them of our Incoming First Year Day, which is happening next week. We were delighted to bring some of the trophies that our teams have won over the past year, in football, basketball and for our float in this year's Kilrush St Patrick's Day Parade.
A huge míle buíochas to Shane Burke, Sam O'Gorman, Emmet Gavin, Tom Crehan, Cian Burke, Sophie McGarry, Lilly Keane and Alice Gavin for meeting everyone and telling them all about our wonderful school, our range of facilities, subjects and extra curricular activities. Thanks to Ms Hehir and all in Cooraclare NS for having us visit, and to Ms Garry and Mr O'Dea for organising.

⚽️Senior Football Result ⚽️
Kilrush Community School 0-17. Ennistymon Community School 2-7

Our Senior Boys Footballers got off to a great start in their Clare Post Primary Schools campaign with a win yesterday. Weather conditions were tricky, with a very strong cross field breeze proving a challenge to both teams. KCS made the most of a good start to lead at half time 0-11 to 0-04. ECS rallied in the second half, but KCS had enough in the tank to secure the win. This was a real whole team performance, which our lads can be very proud of. Thanks to coach Mr O'Dea and Mr McKeown for accompanying.

🏀 Basketball Updates 🏀
Congratulations to our u19 girls basketball team who continued their winning streak from last year after moving up a grade and had a brilliant win over Causeway Comprehensive in Round 1 of the Regional Competition. They played outstanding throughout and ran out winners 26-42.
Commiserations to our u16 girls who tried hard throughout their game but were defeated by a physically stronger side. Both teams will play round two in a few weeks. Thanks to Ms Leamy and Ms Vaughan. Well done to all.

TY 26/27 in KCS has started off with flying colours, already making loads of new memories. Our TYs are just back from two jam‑packed days of activities in Causey Farm and Athlone Bay Sports — filled with laughter and fun. Many thanks to Ms Garry, Ms Golden and Mr McKeown for accompanying them.

⚽️⚽️ KCS sporting activity is back for 2026/2027 ⚽️⚽️
We had 2 games this week. Our u17 boys football team were in Munster action yesterday. They played a very physical and fast St Caimins Shannon side who came out on top in the end. They will play round 1 of the County competition next week.
Our senior girls football team started their County competition today. They were away to Ennistymon Community school. Our girls battled hard but Ennistymon with the aid of a strong wind in the first half notched up a comfortable lead and our girls were unable to pull it back. They will play round 2 in a few weeks time.
Thanks to Mr Shannon for coaching the boys and Sabrina Mc Inerney for accompanying. Thanks to Ms Mc Mahon for coaching the girls and Ms Vaughan for accompanying. Well done to all involved.
