Hitting the headlines in the Irish Times and Irish Examiner was our own Heidi Burchill who was part of the production 'The Bourn Vincent Family of Muckross House' performed in Killarney House recently. Also starring in the play was Noah and Bella Brosnan, Miss Charlene Brosnan, Mr Gerard Lynch and Mr. O'! A big thank you to Mr. Ó Súilleabháin and Dan for helping the production with rehearsal space. It was a mighty success and a great team effort!! 👏👏⭐️

⭐️ Congratulations to Lynn Jones (aka Miss Burchill) and her Irish teammates who have arrived back from the FIBA Open World Masters in Greece with the Gold Medal. It was particularly satisfying for the team as they defeated Italy in the final, the same team that defeated them at the semi-final stage last year. Well done Lynn and Co. 👏👏⭐️🏆

It's about the family who bought Muckross House a long time ago and gave it to the people to enjoy! Below is the story. ⭐️ Bourn Vincent Story to Bring Killarney’s Rich History to Life
⭐️ A captivating new theatrical production, The Bourn Vincent Story, is set to transport audiences back to the elegance and intrigue of early twentieth-century Ireland as part of the Summer in Killarney Festival.
⭐️ Described as an Irish version of Downton Abbey, the dramatisation tells the remarkable true story of the Bourn Vincent family, whose lives became intertwined with some of the most significant events in Irish history. The production follows the romantic tale of an American millionaire’s daughter and an Irish barrister from the gentry class, set against the backdrop of the Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War.
⭐️ Audiences will be immersed in a world of wealth, privilege and social change, while also gaining insight into the lives of the local families who worked for the Bourn Vincents. The story traces the fortunes and misfortunes of the family and reveals how the iconic Muckross House ultimately passed from private ownership into the care of the nation, becoming a cornerstone of what is now Killarney National Park.
⭐️ Featuring a talented cast of well-known local performers, the production, which is written and directed by Noel O’Sullivan, promises an unforgettable evening of entertainment, combining song, drama, dance, poetry, laughter and emotion.
⭐️ Set in the uniquely charming courtyard of Killarney House, the event will begin with a wine and cheese reception at 7pm, followed by the performance at 8pm.
⭐️ Performances will take place on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. With tickets limited, organisers are encouraging audiences to book early to avoid disappointment.

⭐️ Minister Foley welcomes commencement of major extension at St Oliver’s NS, Killarney
⭐️ Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley TD, has welcomed the commencement of construction on a significant 10-classroom extension at St Oliver’s National School, Killarney, describing the project as a major step forward in meeting the future needs of special education in Kerry.
⭐️ The substantial development will provide three new mainstream classrooms, three Special Educational Needs (SEN) rooms, and four Special Education Teacher (SET) rooms, significantly enhancing the school’s capacity to support inclusive education and pupils with additional needs.
⭐️ Speaking during her recent visit to the school to mark the beginning of works, Minister Foley paid tribute not only to the ambition of the project but also to the commitment of the entire school community:
⭐️ “This is a landmark development for St Oliver’s National School and for the wider Kerry region. I want to commend the outstanding commitment and collaboration of the Principal, staff, parents and Board of Management, whose sustained engagement and vision have been critical in bringing this project to fruition. This extension represents a forward-looking investment that will enable the school to meet the evolving and increasingly complex needs of children requiring special education supports, both now and into the future.”
⭐️ The extension will create capacity for an additional 42 student places, helping to respond to growing demographic demand while strengthening the provision of specialist supports within the region.
⭐️ Principal Colm O Súilleabháin acknowledged the importance of the milestone and the long-term efforts behind it:
⭐️ “We are extremely grateful for the Minister’s continued support in progressing this project over a number of years. I would also like to acknowledge the work of past principals and Boards of Management whose vision and determination made this possible. This extension will be transformative for our school community, enhancing how we support all of our pupils and allowing us to build on our strong tradition of inclusive education.”
⭐️ This significant investment forms part of a broader national programme funded by the Department of Education aimed at expanding special educational capacity within existing schools.
⭐️ Critically, the development will be of enormous benefit to children and families across Kerry who rely on high-quality special education provision. By expanding access to purpose-built SEN and SET facilities, the school will be better positioned to meet local demand, reduce pressure on existing services, and ensure that more children can receive the tailored supports they need within their own community.
⭐️ Construction commenced earlier this month with the new extension scheduled to be completed by early 2028.
