All or Every?

“All” is plural and refers to a group.

“Every” is singular and refers to each individual member of a group.

There's not a lot of difference in practical use—if every member of a group does something, all of them do it—but it determines whether the associated verb is singular or plural.

All the clowns are funny.

Every clown is funny.

All and every are determiners.

We use both all and every to refer to the total number of something. All refers to a complete group. Every refers to each member of a complete group:

Eg.The questionnaire was sent to all employees.

Eg.The questionnaire was sent to every employee.
