The Know Your Hedgerows project is at The Mill Family Resource Centre Community Allotments today, helping the local community to connect with the heritage and biodiversity of native Irish hedges.

I first came across this recipe in Wolf-Men and Water Hounds by Manchán Magan.
We’re now giving new life to our leftover alder kernels (fearnóg) by crafting what was recorded in Old Irish as ruam — a rnatural dye drawn from alder to give a red , with the helping hands of bramble root (dris) and wood sorrel (seamsóg) — Thanks to Manchán for reviving the traditional Irish word and this ancient colour.

We’re delighted to be digging out our very first trees at Graine Native Tree Nursery — a milestone moment for us and for nature-based water solutions in the Nore Catchment .

These native trees will soon be planted by as part of a project funded by in a series of woodland Wetland Buffer Systems designed by and planted by farmers participating in the .

Riparian Woodland buffers play a vital role in water management — helping to Protect and improve water quality Stabilise soils and reduce runoff,
Increase water storage across the landscape and Support biodiversity and healthier farm ecosystems

As a catchment based nursery, it is so inspiring to see these seeds collected from long established native woodlands in the Nore catchment, being harvested now for tree planting projects that will protect water quality in the catchment!

Today' s skillshare event marked the launch of Kilkenny Late Hay Project, a collaboration with KeepKilkennyBeautiful and the Kilkenny Traveller Horse Project. Thanks to Chris Hayes for leading this event. Looking forward to making hay next week and exploring traditions of common grazing in Kilkenny . This project is supported by as part of the Community Heritage Grant awarded to KKB.
