Shout out to Wild Child Day and National Heritage Week ! Thank you to the Heritage Council and to Kilkenny County Council for the opportunity to initiate new children & their families to Forest School in Jenkinstown Woods.

Jenkinstown Wood is a beautiful piece of woodland, only 10 min drive from Kilkenny. It is owned by Coillte who manage it for recreation and have recently put in brand new signage and improved pathways. It is full of history as well as natural attractions. The more we come out to enjoy such places, the more we will value them and protect them for the future. I'm very glad that more families might now become regular visitors and appreciators of this part of our heritage.

Wild Child Day event is financially supported by The Heritage Council and Kilkenny County Council and aligns with the Kilkenny Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030.

Wild Child Day is calling !

National Heritage Week is dedicating Saturday 22nd of August to getting kids outdoors and enjoying their natural environment. Yes yes more of that sort of thing please !🥳

Woodkids is hosting free tasters for anyone who hasn't been to Forest School before and would like to give it a try.

-10am - 11:30 am : Parent & Child Group. For children aged 18months - 5 years old accompanied by a carer
- 1pm- 3pm : Kids only group. For children aged 5 - 10 years old

Places are limited for each and booking is essential.

Thank you to the students and teachers of St Patrick's Special School for coming out to the woods for their end of term outing 🌳

I'm thrilled that people like St Patrick's staff have the heart to get their pupils outdoors and enjoying nature. Yes there's a bit of organisation to do, there's transport to arrange, and there's extra staff required to accompany the children.
But it is so, so worth it : those who long to throw stuff can throw stuff, those who love water play can jump right in, those who just want to lie down on the forest floor and listen to the birds are welcome to do just that.

The forest holds different boundaries than the classroom and everyone breathes a sigh of relief.

There is a contentment that you just won't find indoors.

How about an adventure in the woods this summer ?

Woodkids Forest School is offering three camps full of arts & crafts, games, storytelling and fun. We believe summers are for outdoors and free play 😍

📅 21-23 July // 11-13 August // 18-20 August 2026
🕰 10am - 1pm
📍Jenkinstown Woods, Kilkenny
🌱 For children aged 2-7. Under 3's must have a carer with them. Parents & younger siblings are welcome to stay.

Camps are led by a professional Forest School Leader and an Early Years Educator. Our groups are purposefully kept small to keep things calm and relaxed.
