Kilkenny Employment for Youth (KEY) Community Training Centre is hosting an Open Day on Tuesday 13th October, from 2-5pm.

Address: Kilkenny Employment for Youth CTC, Garden Row, High Street, Kilkenny R95 WT28

The centre, funded through KCETB, delivers full-time programmes that lead to qualifications at QQI Levels 3 and 4, as well as VTCT awards. Courses available include Employability Skills, General Learning, and Hairdressing and Barbering. These programmes are aimed at early school leavers aged 16 to 21 who want to build vocational skills, knowledge, and competence to support progression into employment or further education and training.

In addition, the centre offers a Linked Work Experience Programme, which provides a six month supported job placement for participants up to 25 years of age. This programme is focused on enhancing practical workplace skills and improving overall employability.

Learning Local on KCLR returns in partnership with KCETB!
It was uplifting to hear Una Ni Mhaoldhomhnaigh chatting with two inspirational women about all thing’s apprenticeships, WorldSkills and women in the workplace.
Both guests are Toolmakers, and it was particularly great to hear Casey share her journey — from starting her apprenticeship in Carlow Toolmaking Services to where she is today, the experiences she has gained along the way, and her perspective on being a female working in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Casey is also a 2026 Apprentice of the Year nominee, which is a fantastic achievement and bears testament to the quality and high standard, and recognition of her hard work, commitment and dedication to her apprenticeship. 👏
The conversation highlights the opportunities apprenticeships can provide and the growing number of women choosing careers in engineering, manufacturing and other skilled trades.
An inspirational and insightful listen for anyone considering an apprenticeship, offering a great insight into the world of apprenticeships, WorldSkills and engineering, while also highlighting the experiences and achievements of women building successful careers in skilled trades.

The Moving on Local Training initiative in St. Catherine’s Community Services Centre in Carlow is currently accepting applications to their QQI Level 4 Major Award in Employment Skills programme.

This programme is funded through KCETB and has been designed to meet the needs of young mothers. It will run from September 2026 to June 2027, Monday to Friday from 9.30-14.30 and is aligned with the school holidays. It also offers free childcare for children over 1 (places are limited).
