St Brigid's NS Kells Kilkenny

St Brigid's NS Kells Kilkenny St Brigid’s national school has been providing education to the children of Kells village and its surrounding areas for generations.

We seek to place learning at the centre of what we do, whether that’s fostering emotional skills and resilience or setting high standards of achievement for our pupils, who enjoy a positive school climate and culture of teamwork. Our school building was extensively renovated in 2012 and provides a bright and welcoming learning environment for our pupils. Today our current school principal Sean Mea

ny and his exceptional team of staff provide a very child - centred and hands on learning approach. The children can work in groups and are active participants in their own learning. In Saint Brigid’s national school we strive to develop positive relationships with one another, building a school community where every child is of value and where parents are valued partners in education. Parental support of the school is strong and over the years we have forged important links within the community. The Kells community creche offers a drop - off and collection service and the children often take part in local events and fundraisers. As well as covering the core elements of the curriculum as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills the students get opportunities to participate in various valuable educational projects. Saint Brigid’s National School is actively involved in Green Schools and has been awarded our 9th Green flag. Work has already begun work on achieving our 10th. There is also a diverse range of activities available in the school which range from Yoga to Junior Entrepreneur programme. We currently have the Active School Flag and are a health promoting school. We are also in our second year as a pilot school for Creative Schools, an initiative of The Arts Council, and are having lots of exciting Arts-related Activities. We believe in providing support for our pupils well-being and are keenly aware of and responsive to the personal strengths and needs of our individual students.

Like many communities at the moment, we are experiencing a serious increase in dog fouling around our village — on footpaths, green areas, and near places where children walk and play.

This isn’t just unpleasant — it’s a health hazard, especially for children and older residents. It also affects the appearance of our village and the pride we take in keeping it clean and welcoming.

If you own a dog, please:

Always carry bags
Clean up immediately
Dispose of waste properly

There is no excuse for leaving it behind. We all share this village. Let’s look after it together.

Let’s work together to keep our community clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone.

We were delighted to once again welcome the interactive theater company, Little Red Kettle, into the school on Tuesday.  The children loved dressing up, participating in the story and reacting to some of the plot twists!

🎄✨ A Huge Well Done to Our School Community! ✨🎄

Our school Christmas show, held in the Church of the Holy Cross, Kells Community, was a huge success and a truly special occasion.

Well done to all our wonderful children who worked so hard — learning their songs, singing their solos, playing their instruments, and remembering every dance move. Your confidence, talent and enthusiasm shone brightly and made the show so memorable.

Thank you to our teachers who helped make it such a joyful celebration of the season. We are so proud of you all! 🌟🎶💃🕺

The Christmas Show was a huge success again this year, the children did exceptionally well and all had a great time! As a token of appreciation, the Board of Management gave each child a small gift for Christmas, they were delighted as you can see!!

🎒✨ Ready, Steady… School! ✨🎒

The summer sunshine, late bedtimes, and endless adventures are slowly giving way to something just as exciting — the start of a brand-new school year at St. Brigid’s National School!

We’re opening our gates again on Thursday, 28th August, and we can’t wait to welcome our pupils back for another year of learning, laughter, and friendship. Whether you’re joining us for the very first time or returning for another chapter in your St. Brigid’s story, here are a few light-hearted tips to make the first day back run smoothly.

For Kids:
Find your matching socks — yes, both of them!
Pack your favourite pencil case (bonus points if it actually has pencils in it).
Try on your school shoes — if they squeak, you’re ready to go!

For Parents:
Practise your morning coffee-to-lunchbox speed run — a vital back-to-school skill!
Pop “First Day Back” in the diary (and maybe pencil in a well-earned rest afterwards).
Have your camera ready for that all-important first-day photo.

A New Year, A Fresh Start
The first day of school is always special — full of promise, possibilities, and perhaps a few butterflies in the stomach. By taking a little time to get organised (and have a laugh while you do it), you can help make the return to school a positive experience for everyone.

We look forward to seeing all our pupils’ bright smiles and shiny school bags on Thursday, 28th August. Let’s make 2025/2026 our best year yet at St. Brigid’s!

Thank You from St Brigid's NS Kells Kilkenny!

As of school close yesterday for the summer at 12pm, your incredible generosity has helped us fill our Book Swap Station with nearly 350 books and comics!

The shelves are now bursting with fun, adventure, and imagination, ready for all our young readers to enjoy.

A special shout-out to the 6th Kilkenny Kells Scout Group for helping collect donations — you’re absolute superstars! ⭐️

We’re still happily accepting gently loved children’s books for ages 4–12 over the summer. If you have a few to share, just send Louise a text or WhatsApp on 087 274 783.

Let’s keep the stories flowing! 📖
