A little update:

I am currently volunteering in Bali, Indonesia for the month of November teaching students in orphanages English and helping teachers in local schools with the development of their own resources and methodolies when it comes to teaching English.

There is a huge push toward learning English in Bali, especially post Covid, as most young people will work in the hospitality industry in the future and tourists mainly come from Australia. Therefore, it’s seen as essential to learn English but unfortunately this doesn’t happen until students are in secondary school in most cases.

Next week, myself and another volunteer, who also works in a secondary school, will visit the schools on Monday and Tuesday to share our expertises, as well as go into the classrooms and see the students learning.

It is an amazing opportunity and something I am very grateful to be involved in.

The Initial consultaion.
Upon reaching out to English. Anywhere! via WhatsApp, email, social media or phone, there will be a FREE initial consultation to ensure that the specific needs of each student are considered. We will discuss the relevant learning goals and areas for development. Usually, contact is made via parents of the student.

Schedule the lesson.
Once we have established the needs and requirements of the students, we then schedule a weekly lesson at a time that is convenient. We follow this schedule and stick to this time weekly. However, more lessons can be added as required. Similarly, we can reduce the amount of lessons as time goes on.

Start learning!
The sessions will take place via MS teams (other options are available if required). Personalised resources will be shared, these will be tailored to the needs of the student discussed in the initial consultation. The lesson will always be student focused and 1:1.

Constant feedback and support. Tutors will provide feedback and help to identify areas of improve. They will also provide support and encouragement throughout the student’s learning journey. It is important to be consistent, maintaining a weekly schedule in order to see results. With the help of an English. Anywhere! Tutor you (or your child) will see results!

Reading is one of the easiest ways to improve our overall English. We really underestimate it. 📖
 
In our busy lives the idea of tackling a book is daunting, especially if we haven’t read in a while. It is so much easier to just scroll on your phone. However, you do not have to be reading ‘classic literature’ or difficult books, it could be a few short news articles, poetry or even the newspaper!
 
As a secondary English teacher, I often asked students why they didn’t read anymore. Aside from the usual reasons like “It’s boring!”, the number one reason was “I probably wouldn’t finish it.” I totally get this! I understand why a 350-page book is daunting.
I recently bought a magazine, for the first time in years, and it was so lovely just taking my time reading it with a cup of tea. Not for any specific purpose other than to switch off and relax! (Yes, the magazine was Irish VIP magazine and I shamelessly enjoyed every minute of it!)
 
On a more serious note, reading daily helps to:
 
·      Exercise your brain
·      Provide entertainment & knowledge
·      Extend your vocabulary
·      Improve your spellings and use of punctuation
·      Understand syntax (fluency) or words with multiple meanings
·      Stimulate your imagination
·      Inspire for your own writing ideas
·      Allow for ‘down time’ away from devices (even a kindle!).

Hi, I’m Aoife! Creator of English. Anywhere! I have been a secondary English Teacher for 8 years, having worked in Ireland, The Middle East and Asia. I have taught a variety of curriculums to all levels, as well as teaching English to students as an additional language.

English. Anywhere! provides one-on-one tutoring from a fully qualified teacher via an online platform, usually on MS Teams.
Students can schedule a session at a time that is convenient and fits in to their study/work schedule. 💻

During the initial tutoring session, the tutor will begin by assessing the student's needs. The tutor will then create a personalised learning plan for the student and begin working on the areas for development.
For example, a one hour session over a six week period prioritising GCSE transactional writing techniques. 🖋️

Tutors use a variety of tools and resources to help students learn, such as online whiteboards, personalised resources and document sharing.
All resources can be downloaded and kept by the student for use after the session.
The option to record the lesson is also available. ⏺️

Tutors will always feedback to students on their work, either during the session or prior to the next session.
This is invaluable for improvement and seeing results! 📖

Created by Aoife Breen, an experienced and passionate English teacher who has taught in a variety of educational settings, including secondary schools, language institutions and international schools in both The Middle East and Asia. She has a deep understanding of the different English curriculum requirements and assessment objectives of the Irish, British, and IB systems.

Anywhere! is made up for a team of 8 English teachers with a variety of specialisms, ranging from Primary to Secondary, teaching English as an additional language as well as secondary English language and literature.
