Let's talk about regulation....
I strongly feel that we need to remove emotions from regulation to truly understand it for ourselves and to teach it to our(selves) kids and students.
This is always my starting point -
Having the right energy for the task you need to do that's regulation.
I often ask the kids to lie down, relax, close their eyes and scan their body? How are you feeling? Do you feel jittery? Jumpy? Is it difficult to lie there? Can you keep your eyes closed?
The body probably has too much energy for this task. The don't need to name the emotion to know that there is a mismatch.
That work comes later.
