Kells Youthreach was delighted to participate in the Kells St. Patrick's Day Parade again this year.

Big thanks to Paul, Saoirse, Sean, Fiona, Charley, Aaron, Lilly, Sadie, Ben, Eanna, Ebaa, New Adam, Old Adam, Paige, Karl, Rob, Daisy and Joe.

We would also like to thank Mary from 5th Meath Kells scouts and John Grant from Kells Musical & Dramatic Society 1976 for your help and assistance.

Kells Youthreach would like to send a special shoutout to Thomas Power and Danny Smith from 5th Meath Kells scouts. Thomas and Danny both volunteered to help setup and take down the gazebo for the Sensory Area this year. Fair play to you lads for helping out and contributing to your community.

Kells Youthreach Centre of Education and the Kells St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee will be facilitating the sensory section for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Kells again this year. It is the fourth year that Kells has had a sensory section for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

A sensory section is a special area where parade participants are asked to avoid making loud noises, like sirens, horns, whistles and music. All parade participants are encouraged to blow bubbles while walking through the sensory area. Parade participants can bring their own bubbles or the committee is organizing to have some bubble mixture handed out. The green space beside sensory area has also been designated as a quiet section with space to run around for those who might need it. This has been a wonderful initiative by the learners of Kells Youthreach, who are striving to create an inclusive event for everyone in our community, so all support is appreciated.

The sensory section will run from the top of Carrick Street through to Lord Edward Street. The sensory area also includes the section of the green area beside the parade route.

We are delighted to share Rachel Joyce’s entry to Sligo National Poetry Competition. Rachel’s poem is called “Where Auld Magic Still Burns” and it can be found below:

Where Auld Magic Still Burns

Magic told stories long ago of a campfire that ceased to grow,
magic lived in the flames back then, when
wagons creaked and horses lay in the dark.

They sat closer back then,
stories drifting through smoke,
the fire crackling, the only other one that spoke.

The auld ways are long gone but the memory of magic remains,
a time when roads were trusted more than maps.

The fire was never too large.
it knew when to stop,
waiting as if magic itself might crack.

Magic is different now,
cars replace hooves,
and screens light faces instead of flames.

Stories of magic grow shorter,
lost where roads no longer entwine,
and magic feels harder to find.

Magic didn’t vanish,
the fires are simply smaller,
the roads are less travelled.
Still Burning-even now.
