Howth Castle Cookery School ‘Hands-on’ evening and weekend cooking classes delivered by a passionate and knowledgeable team. Bespoke Group & Corporate Experiences also available.

Offering a wide range of recipes from around the world, we have classes to suit all ages and all levels. Howth Castle Cookery School is based in the beautifully restored Georgian kitchens in historic Howth Castle. On our short hands-on cookery courses participants cook in groups for approximately two hours and then sit down to eat all that they have prepared with a glass of wine. Our demonstrations include a tasting of all that has been prepared along with recipes to take home. OFFICE HOURS: MONDAY THRU FRIDAY 10AM - 5PM

After hosting a party, there is always a little red wine left over. Why not turn it into your own homemade red wine vinegar.
It only takes a couple of steps and few ingredients you probably already have at home! 🍷

Our recipe:

For 1L
600ml red wine
200ml apple cider vinegar (preferably unfiltered with the mother)
200ml filtered water
A wide-mouth jar
Cheesecloth or breathable kitchen towel

Pour the liquid in the jar, give it a stir with a metal spoon.
Cover the jar with cheesecloth and secure it tightly with an elastic band.
Now you can let nature do its thing and check on it in a couple of weeks.
If you’re using apple cider vinegar without the mother, it can take 4–5 weeks for your vinegar to fully develop. You’ll start to see a gelatinous layer — the vinegar mother — forming on the surface.
Your vinegar is ready when it has reached the level of tanginess and sharpness you prefer.
Once ready, filter it through two layers of cheesecloth or a coffee filter.
And then… you can pour in more wine and water and repeat the process!

This class starts out early with two hours of fishing out the back of Ireland’s Eye in Dublin Bay under the eye of our skipper, David Doyle.

Have fun doing your best to catch your own lunch and practice your casting and reeling techniques before we return to the cookery school for a hands-on class where we will show you how to cook and prepare a selection of locally caught fish and shellfish dishes.

Get ready to spice things up!

In this hands-on cookery class, you’ll master the art of creating authentic Mexican tacos, from perfectly seasoned fillings to freshly toasted tortillas. Under the guidance of our chef, you’ll learn the secrets behind building bold flavours with vibrant salsas, zesty toppings, and traditional cooking techniques.

No taco night is complete without a refreshing margarita! Shake, stir, and sample classic and creative variations!

By the end of the class, you’ll have all the skills (and recipes!) to host your own Mexican fiesta at home.

We have a few spaces remaining in our Summer 3 -day cooking experience designed especially for food-loving teens. The camp runs on August 19-21, 2026 just before the teens head back to the classroom.

Each day runs for approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, offering an immersive, hands-on cooking programme. Throughout the camp, participants will learn essential kitchen skills and gain practical food knowledge that’s relevant in today’s world.

Our goal is to equip teens with the confidence, creativity, and life skills they need to navigate the kitchen independently. While discovering how to prepare nutritious, delicious, and fun meals that they can confidently replicate at home. Book online at howthcastlecookeryschool.ie/classes
