Our Philosophy
Here at Lámh Beag we believe that every child is a unique individual who will learn at their pace and in their own way. Our staff members are all of the view that Play is an integral part of children’s development and that they can learn something from every situation. We believe that children need an enriching, safe and prepared environment, with
supportive adults who are committed to ongoing learning and training. We feel our role is to help children help themselves, to be Reflective Practitioners and to provide enriching experiences and materials for the children in our care. Our Mission is:
• To meet with and surpass the standards of Siolta (the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education) and to provide a curriculum guided by the themes of Aistear (the Early Childhood Curriculum) by supporting the children’s Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating and Exploring and Thinking.
• To provide a full and varied range of materials and experiences, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere for your children.
• To ensure that the children have access to a wide range of excellent resources, well-planned activities and opportunities for adventure, exploration and imaginative play both indoors and outdoors.
• To encourage the Children to play in the garden every day "whatever the weather".
• To help each child reach their full potential, establish positive relationships with the other children and staff, and develop a life-long love for learning.
• To be inclusive to all children within the age group, regardless of culture, family background, religious beliefs, gender or abilities.
• To ensure that all children feel included, secure and valued within our setting.
• To acknowledge that parents are the primary carers & educators of their children, and to ensure that our parents feel valued and see themselves as partners within our setting.
• To achieve care ad inclusion education by providing continually reviewing an anti-bias approach that is implemented by Lámh Beag and by working in partnership with families, children and the early childhood team, both individually through reflective practice, and in consultation with the children and their families, so as to ensure that the education and care provided is fully inclusive of all children, families and agencies that attend and use our service. Lámh Beag will be Longford's first Irish language pre-school. Along with the advantages of your child attending a quality pre-school, attending Lámh Beag has the added advantage of your child acquiring their second language through play. Studies show that the best time to learn two languages is before the age of 7. The human brain is wired to learn language in early childhood. The earlier a child starts learning a second language, the greater their chances of achieving full fluency. Montessori
Our Montessori curriculum will be a child-centred approach to learning. Montessori has its own equipment and structure. Montessori is broken up into various subjects-maths, language, sensorial, practical life, cultural and arts and crafts.
