An efficient practice regime Ive developed that has crossover to multiple instruments!
Piano Hanon (15 minutes)
Do the first Hanon exercise, hands separate, then together. Focus on lifting each finger high and playing evenly.
Crossover: Builds finger strength and independence for your fretting hand on both guitar and bass.
2. Drum single strokes (15 minutes)
Alternate sticking RLRLRLRL on a pad or snare, metronome starting slow. Keep wrists relaxed.
Crossover: Trains the exact same wrist motion you need for fast alternate picking and tremolo picking on guitar.
3. Bass scales (15 minutes)
Take the same scale you practiced in Hanon and play it on bass, one finger per fret.
Crossover: Immediately uses the fretting strength you just built on piano.
4. Piano legato scales (10 minutes)
Play a simple major or minor scale on piano with perfectly connected notes, no gaps.
Crossover: Trains smooth, even timing that youβll copy on guitar.
5. Guitar legato (5 minutes)
Play the exact same scale using only hammer-ons and pull-offs, no picking.
Crossover: Uses the smooth timing from piano to make your guitar legato sound clean and effortless.
