On an August afternoon in 2012 I received a call from a headhunter about a German speaking job opportunity in Dublin, Ireland.
My initial response was ‘I’m not looking for a job abroad, I’d rather stay in Budapest.’ 🇭🇺
As we kept talking and I felt bad for saying no, I asked for an email with the job spec and further details.
Fast forward 8.5 years and I’m here, starting my coaching journey, giving advice to my peers, fellow expats.
Sounds simple, right?
Those who know me and my journey, could tell that it has been a wild ride 😬👀
Establishing yourself in a new country, settling in, dealing with homesick and recreate/reset your life is not a piece of cake.
I was fortunate enough to get a relocation package and a dear friend, who has already been living in Dublin for a while, to support me from the get go. 🤗
Even with this ‘enablement’ I struggled.
I still remember my first Christmas alone, far from family, feeling numb and aching from homesick.
There were times when I really doubted my decision and wanted to move back home.
But something kept me here. A gut feeling that I’m exactly where and when I need to be. 😌
Turns out, my instinct was right.
Answering that headhunter call, asking for more information, realising the potential in it, seeing the true opportunity, having the bravery to step out of my comfort zone and move to Ireland, was one of best decisions of my life.☘️ 🇮🇪
Now, in 2021, in the middle of a pandemic, after years of contemplating if and how I should pursue my dream of becoming a coach, I came to the realisation: giving advice to fellow expats who’ve also chosen another country to be their new home, is what I need to do.
