This summer, the West Pharmaceutical Services team is hosting Biomedical Engineering student Laura Przygoda for a DCU Access to the Workplace internship. It was truly encouraging to see how the programme supports their goals and helps students like Laura in their future careers.

Thanks to the support of our partner companies, DCU Access students can avail of professional summer placements and develop skills they will carry with them long after graduation.

DCU Access to the Workplace set Illan Dunne on the path to a successful career with PwC. This summer, English and History student Matthew Reilly is hoping his own Access to the Workplace internship will help him develop new skills and perhaps discover his own future career path.

Here, Matthew, Illan, and Niamh McInerney, Director of Talent Acquisition at PwC, share their experiences with the programme.

On a recent visit to Trane Technologies, we heard about the incredible hands-on experience DCU Computer Science student Teddy Essomba has had during his DCU Access to the Workplace placement.

This award-winning programme enables DCU Access students and neurodivergent students to take on professional summer internships with Irish businesses. It’s all thanks to the support of our partner companies like Trane Technologies.

A natural networker, Oliver has already set up a successful window cleaning business and a running apparel brand. A new library room for children in Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School Drimnagh is now open, made possible by the time and funding donated by Deutsche Bank.

DCU’s Write to Read Project is an initiative of DCU Centre for Literacy Research, Policy and Practice, which helps to close the literacy gap in disadvantaged (DEIS) schools through research, professional development, and much-needed library books. The support of Deutsche Bank will help the programme deliver library books for three DEIS schools in the area.

Thanks to all the volunteers from Deutsche Bank, who did a fantastic job transforming this space into a colourful, welcoming library.

It was also announced recently that the project will receive new funding from the RTÉ Toy Show Grant to help improve literacy outcomes for children in disadvantaged schools and communities and create more moments like this one.

The DCU Changemaker Schools Network is supporting educators around the country to instil essential skills like empathy, creativity and teamwork in their students.

Thanks to philanthropic support there are now over 50 member schools, all working towards this goal. We were delighted to pay a visit one of the schools, Rathcoole Educate Together National School (ETNS), to meet the staff and students and see the impact of this programme in action. We were delighted to have Fidelity Investments Ireland return to sponsor the Women in STEM Award at this year’s Dublin City University Faculty of Engineering and Computing Final-Year Project Expo. This award celebrates the contributions of women to STEM disciplines, helping to champion a more inclusive future for the industry.

The first-place Women in STEM Award for 2026 was presented to Katie Cullen and Alanna McSweeney for their project “DevSync”, a collaborative web-based code editor that allows users to work together in real time using their GitHub accounts. It supports live editing, project syncing, and admin controls for managing collaborators and access within shared workspaces.

The second-place award went to Diana Eze for her project “EasySound”, a contact-free audio playback system.

By supporting a new generation of STEM talent, our collaboration with is helping to nurture creativity, drive innovation, and strengthen the talent pipeline in Ireland. Congratulations to Katie, Alanna, and Diana for their outstanding work!
