The National Institute for Preventive Cardiology (NIPC) was established by Croí Cardiac Foundation and functions as an entity within the Croí Heart and Stroke Centre, Galway. Established in 1985, Croí is a registered Irish Heart and Stroke Charity committed to preventing disease, saving lives and promoting recovery and wellbeing. The NIPC supports these goals by: producing a new generation of scholars and leaders in cardiovascular health and disease prevention; addressing priority health needs by driving cardiovascular research in disease prevention and rehabilitation; developing innovative models of preventive care and service delivery; and engaging with policy makers and health practitioners to strive for excellence in preventive healthcare. The NIPC has a strong alliance with the National University of Ireland Galway and operates as an affiliate of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Healthcare providers, educators and researchers involved in cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation are able to subscribe to the NIPC Alliance to access a wide range of resources supporting excellence in preventive health and preventive cardiology healthcare in Ireland.

NIPC is proud to have worked in close collaboration with the HSE, clinical experts and patient representatives in the development of the new HSE Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinical Action Guide.

This important national resource represents a significant step forward in supporting the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based and person-centred cardiac rehabilitation services across Ireland.

By translating the HSE Model of Care for Integrated Cardiac Rehabilitation into practical clinical guidance, the new plan will help healthcare professionals deliver more consistent, coordinated care, support equitable access to rehabilitation services nationwide and improve outcomes and quality of life for people living with cardiovascular disease.

NIPC’s clinical leads for the PEACETIME project, Dr susan connolly and Dr Irene Gibson, together with Professor Alex Miras, NI clinical lead and HSE professionals in general practice, nursing and dietetics, recently held an engaging and productive workshop in Letterkenny with the new PEACETIME multi-disciplinary team.

PEACETIME is a cross-border collaborative health and social care project aimed at increasing access to care for people living with . The new team, with expertise in nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, psychology and health coaching, will guide patients through the programme for one year, with opportunities for both face-to-face and virtual engagement.

During the workshop, the team discussed and refined the specialist clinical pathways they will implement to assess, support and improve patient health. Many thanks to all who participated, including ROI PEACETIME GP lead Dr Kathy Murray and to Claire McRory for facilitating the day.
