Well done to the apprentices and staff at GRETB Training Centre, Mervue Galway for their fantastic work!
♻️ By recycling through the Deposit Return Scheme, the team raised €882 for the Globetrotters Special Olympics Basketball Club.

This donation supports the club as four athletes prepare to represent Connacht at the Special Olympics Ireland Games in Dublin this June. 🏀✨

Best of luck to Jack, Evan, and the entire team—we’re all behind you! 👏🏆

By collecting and recycling bottles and plastics through Ireland’s Deposit Return Scheme, the team at Galway and Roscommon ETB, Mervue Training Centre has raised €882 for Globetrotters Special Olympics Basketball Club.

This donation proudly supports the Globetrotters Special Olympics Basketball Club, Galway, where four athletes have been selected to represent Connacht at the Special Olympics Ireland Games, taking place this June in Dublin. The club will be represented at the Games by the four athletes, accompanied by a chaperone.

As part of this ongoing initiative at Mervue Training Centre, apprentices regularly select different charities throughout the year and work collectively to make meaningful donations - turning everyday actions into real community impact.

Well done to everyone involved for the commitment, collaboration and generosity shown. A fantastic effort by our apprentices and staff for a truly brilliant cause.

Best of luck to Jack, Evan and the entire Globetrotters team at the Games in June - we’ll be cheering you on all the way!

On Monday, we welcomed a fantastic group of female students from Taylors Hill Post Primary School, Galway to the GRETB Training Centre! 🎓

They explored our facilities, met our Instructors, and spoke with current apprentices to gain real insight into the wide range of opportunities available through GRETB.

The students learned about careers in auctioneering, commis chef, and ICT—all available under the earn as you learn model. 💸

Their curiosity, confidence, and enthusiasm reflect a much wider positive trend in Ireland.

Across the country, female participation in apprenticeships has grown significantly in recent years.

A Growing Trend:
Female participation in apprenticeships is soaring. According to the Houses of the Oireachtas (2025):
📈 2,603 female apprentices (as of Feb 2025)
📈 9% of the overall apprentice population
📈 A 70% increase since the end of 2021

Visits like this ensure more women see themselves in funded, industry-driven careers. At GRETB, we are proud to support inclusion and showcase pathways into high-growth industries.

Here’s to empowering the next generation of female apprentices - the future is wide open.
