National Famine Commemoration.
The National Famine Commemoration 2026 was held last week at a most appropriate setting of Portumna Workhouse. As part of the lead up to the final State event on Sunday last, there were eight days of various activities hosted at the workhouse.
Prior to this national event, which will be televised, Emma Laffey gave a talk to some First Year students and they wrote their reflections on the famine and submitted them to her. Emma, in conjunction with Marie Mannion of Galway Heritage, got pull-up posters printed which are now displayed in HRC and also in Portumna Workhouse, which is a great honour for our students. Pictured are Ms Costello’s First Year Class with Emma Laffey and Ms Carr.

On Saturday 16th May, our talented TY Mock Trials team headed back up to the Criminal Courts of Justice to compete in the Semi finals of the national competition. They performed extremely well and we are very proud of their talent and work ethic. It has been a marvellous experience, and performing in the real criminal courts has given them a real experience of law at its best!
