Why is diagnostic planning important?
Assessment provides valuable information, but it is only meaningful when it informs intervention.
Diagnostic planning is the process of using assessment findings, ongoing progress monitoring and professional judgement to make informed decisions about intervention. Intervention is continually reviewed and adjusted to ensure instruction remains purposeful, systematic and responsive to the learner's needs.
Within the Ardú Literacy Framework, diagnostic planning ensures that assessment is translated into meaningful action, allowing intervention to target the right skills at the right time while maintaining a structured and evidence-informed approach.

Assessment-Informed
The first principle of the Ardú Literacy Framework is that intervention should always be informed by assessment.
Assessment is not simply the starting point of intervention, it is the foundation upon which intervention is planned.
A comprehensive assessment helps identify a learner's strengths, areas of need and underlying learning profile. These findings guide the selection of intervention targets, the sequence of instruction and the strategies to support meaningful progress.
As intervention progresses, ongoing assessment continues to inform professional decision making. This allows intervention to be responsive to each learner's needs.

The Ardú Literacy Framework™
At Ardú Learning, specialist literacy intervention is delivered through the Ardú Literacy Framework™.
Grounded in the principles of Structured Literacy and the Orton-Gillingham approach, the framework provides a structured process for planning, delivering and reviewing specialist literacy intervention. It ensures that intervention remains systematic, evidence-informed and responsive to each learner's individual strengths, needs and progress.
Over the coming weeks, I'll be sharing more about the six principles that underpin the framework and how they guide intervention in practice.

It's been a privilege to support learners through specialist assessment, intervention and professional learning, and I'm looking forward to what comes next.
Here's to the next chapter.

Anna Gillingham’s quote, "go as fast as you can, but as slow as you must," serves as the foundational philosophy of the Orton-Gillingham approach.
In the context of teaching children to read, this principle underscores the necessity of completely individualised instruction.
Reading is not an innate skill so by anchoring instruction to the student's specific needs rather than a rigid, predetermined curriculum, educators ensure that struggling readers receive the intensive, deliberate pacing required to secure a solid foundation.
