Aoibhe will be starting class in St Enda's primary school on a Monday. If numbers exceed expectations then we will look at opening a second day of teaching for her. Aoibhe Kettle BiographyAoibhe Kettle is an accomplished traditional Irish harp and fiddle player from Wolfhill, CountyLaois. She recently graduated with First Class Honours in Traditional Irish Music from the IrishWorld Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick.Aoibhe has a number of All-Ireland accolades to her name, including 1st Prize in Senior HarpSlow Airs at the 2024 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Her musical passion lies incomposing for harp, drawing inspiration from traditional Irish music and composers, as well ascontemporary Irish music.Aoibhe has recently completed her original composition, The Famine Suite for solo harp, andis currently preparing to record this work alongside other original compositions for anupcoming EP. In August 2025, Aoibhe was invited by renowned fiddle player Martin Hayes to perform at the Masters of Tradition festival, where she presented a solo harp performance at Bantry Houseas part of the festival programme.

Welcome ot the home of Colourstrings
The language of music is one of the most beautiful human creations. Like all languages it is best learned young to assimilate it as if it was a mother tongue. It is pure and simple and completely comprehensible for children as young as 3 years if taught properly. Colourstrings is a method for sharing this beauty with children and given them a set of responses to express their creativity. Over a short time they learn that music is play, music is fun, music is a language they turn to when words fail, most of all music is a world they occupy when their imaginations are given free rein to explore feeling.

MCnG is a national training centre for Colourstrings. Every Sat morning we open out doors to new young minds eager to learn and have fun. Classes are now open in our new teaching room for Colourstrings. We have spaces. We encourage all parents of young children to come and try our lessons and see what it is all about.

We have 10 free spaces between our new 3 year old and 5 year old classes. So we will offer a free taster class to anyone who is genuinely interested in seeing what it is all about.

The National Chamber Music Workshops for players from Grade 2 to Grade 5 standard are taking place in the Burren, County Clare this Halloween and we would like to ask if you can share the attached flyer in your network and with anyone you think may be interested. We would also be grateful if you can share the details on your social media pages.

We invite applications from string, wind and brass players wishing to learn chamber music. The Irish Association of Youth Orchestras runs a bursary scheme to support musicians to take part in our courses. For more information visit the bursary information page.



WHO CAN APPLY

String, wind and brass players wishing to learn chamber music
Players aged 10 - 16
Open to players from Grade 2 to Grade 5
Experience of chamber ensemble playing is not needed but players should be able to read music
It is best to apply for this course as a quartet of ready-made chamber ensemble. However, groups will also be formed from individual applications based on standard and age. If you want to be in a group with specific friends while on the course, do let us know on the application form.

MESSAGE FROM DR. GÉZA SZILVAY, creator of Colourstrings

Many children today have all the material things they need – clothes, food, toys, etc – sometimes they have more than enough. But material things cannot replace the warmth, affection and time we give to our children, which is so important for their spiritual nourishment.

The “Singing Rascals” books are intended as a means of helping parents, grandparents, kindergarten and nursery school teachers, and all those who have children in their care, to create stimulating and purposeful moments with them.

The pictures, melodies, and words in these books have been carefully chosen and arranged with young pre-school children in mind. The tunes have been selected from those which over the years have proved appealing and easy to learn, and are skilfully illustrated. The characters may be used to make up tales arising from the songs. The printed notation is only for the use of adults.

The creation of Colourstrings Music Kindergartens is a significant step forward in the music education of the very young, and one in which I feel proud to play a part. My wish for all the little members is – joyous singing!
