How long does it usually take to complete the course? The herbal medicine course can take three weeks to complete. That's the great advantage of online learning. Do I need to finish the course within a certain time? You can take as long as you want. We don't set any time limits. What does course cost?
€175. There are no other costs or fees. Can I start the course at any time? You can start to

day. Or next week. Whenever you want. Is the course all from home, or do I have to go to a school and sit tests? It's all done from home. I live in the USA, UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada etc. Is the course suitable for me? We have students in 28 countries. We welcome payment in any currency. How can I contact my teacher or course manager? There have two types of people you can contact - your teacher and your course manager. The manager will help you with any problems. You can post to forums whenever you want. We don't give out the teacher's phone number, because a few people would spend all day talking to their teacher, who would never get any work done. Sometimes students have an urgent question. If so, you can phone the course manager on 089 447 2189 at any time during work hours. If you leave a message out of work hours she'll call you back the next day. You can contact the course manager as often as you want, and about anything to do with herbal medicine. Is the course accredited or endorsed? Our course has been developed and accredited by Dr Dilis Clare. At the end of this course successful students will receive a Certificate of Completion signed by Dr. Clare. Will the course give me credits towards a degree or some other study? No. We encourage all students to continue their studies after completing the course. Is the teacher a practising therapists? Yes, Dr Clare is a practising GP and Medical Herbalist. Is there a final exam? No, there is no final exam. The course is based on continuous assessment. Continuous assessment lets you check all the time that you're on course to succeed. What happens if I fail a test? You do the work again! 80% of students complete the course without ever failing a test. But you might misunderstand the question, or produce an insufficiently detailed answer. You can take the test again. Can I join the course without prior experience? That's no problem. We make no assumptions about people's prior knowledge. But you ought to have a deep interest in the subject. Do I get the whole course or just individual modules one at a time? We open up one unit or module at a time. Are there any restrictions on me setting up as a herbalist? You should always seek qualified advice in the country you live before taking any major step. Do you provide support after I complete the course? Once you complete the course, we’ll give you support.

This introductory course, accredited by Dr. Dilis Clare, in Herbal Medicine is aimed at those interested in using or understanding herbal medicines for:

Themselves and their families.
Providing advice regarding the use of herbal medicines in the course of their employment e.g. sales assistants in health stores, pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, doctors and nurses.
An understanding of the uses and limitations of herbal medicines that are being used by their patients e.g. pharmacists and pharmacy assistants, nurses and doctors.
Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practitioners who wish to extend their knowledge of herbal medicines to benefit their patients.
The course is designed to be flexible and modular. Because it is web based it is accessible to those with web access who have basic computer skills.

All modules are mandatory.

As an on-line course the pace of learning is directed by the student.

The Aims of the course are;

To understand the overall functioning of the body as an integrated whole.
To understand the roles of nourishment and support for healing offered by herbal medicines.
To understand the actions of individual herbs.
To understand the benefits of blending the actions of single herbs in the formulation of herbal blends.
To understand the safety issues in using herbs. This is in the context of current dominance of pharmaceutical medicine.
To know how to make herb teas, decoctions and tinctures.
To know how to responsibly forage and resource herbs.
To learn how to use forty-five herbs for health benefits.
To understand when herbal medicines are not appropriate.
To consider an overview of herbal research.
The overall aim of the course is that the student builds confidence in using herbs and understanding the safe application of knowledge and insights gained by participating in this course. The safe use and understanding of the role of herbs will be to the benefit of their own health and the health of their families, customers, clients and patients where relevant.
