I am a licensed Medical Herbalist. I give classes and workshops on herbs, nutrition, natural beauty and cleaning products, fermentation and natural healing.

I present a course "An Introduction to Herbs and Nutrition" on the Short Course Series 2016-2019, in the Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development, NUI Galway.

My Story

Welcome! My name is Margaret O’Brien, I am a licensed Master Medical Herbalist. I offer consultations in herbal medicine, iris analysis (iridology) a non-invasive assessment tool, nutrition, dietary and lifestyle advice, and natural techniques. Herbal medicine is safe, gentle and effective and can benefit people of all ages. It has been used worldwide for centuries and we have a great tradition of herbalism in this country. Herbal medicine can be used to help alleviate symptoms of a wide range of health conditions, I take a complementary, natural and holistic approach to health care. The aim is to restore balance to the body, by gently supporting, cleansing and nourishing using herbs, dietary and lifestyle changes. Unique herbal formulae are created by me for each person.
I practise in Evergreen Healthfoods, An Fuarán, Moycullen, Co. Galway.

I love nature and the environment, and enjoy observing and identifying herbs and plants in the wild. I also grow herbs in my garden. I present an introductory course on herbalism, food fermentation and nutrition on the Short Course Series, in the Centre for Adult Learning and Professional Development, NUI Galway. I am available to do herb walks, talks or present classes or workshops.

General information

I trained as a Master Herbalist for 4 years in the Western herbal medicine tradition, in the Irish School of Herbal Medicine, with the Master Herbalist Helen Begadon, and have a Licentiate to practice as a Medical Herbalist, along with a Diploma in Iridology, and Natural Nutrition. I have a Science degree and a PhD in Biochemistry, and worked for many years as a scientific and medical researcher. I am a member of the Irish Association of Master Medical Herbalists (IAAMH), which is affiliated to the European Herbal Traditional Practitioners Association. I am also a member of the Irish Institute of Iridologists'.
