MLC is currently seeking warm and welcoming host families for international students who will be attending the following schools for part of, or the full, 2026/27 academic year:

●Coláiste Muire Máthair (St. Mary's College)

We would love to hear from families in or near Knocknacarra, Salthill, Westside, Renmore, Mervue, Wellpark, Ballybane, Doughiska...basically anywhere in or close to Galway city!

Hosting an international student is a rewarding opportunity to experience cultural exchange, build lifelong friendships, and provide a supportive home during their time in Ireland.

There is also great potential to earn additional income, which is tax-free up to €14,000 per year.

FAQ: Everything you need to know about hosting!

Q: Do I need to live in the city center to host? A: Not at all! As long as you are located within a reasonable commute of Galway City (roughly 30-45 minutes by foot or public transport), we would love to have you. We are currently looking for families in suburbs like Knocknacarra, Salthill, Renmore, and Doughiska.

Q: Is this a paid opportunity? A: Yes. We provide competitive weekly rates to our host families to cover the cost of meals and utilities. Hosting is a fantastic way to earn extra income while participating in a rewarding cultural exchange.

Q: What are the requirements for the student's room? A: Students require a clean, comfortable, and private bedroom with a desk or quiet space for study. We also ask that you provide a "home away from home" environment, including three meals a day.

Q: Do I have to be a "traditional" family to host? A: Not at all. Our "host families" come in all shapes and sizes! We welcome retired couples, single professionals, and families with or without children. The most important requirement is a warm welcome and a safe environment.

Q: What kind of support do you provide? A: That’s where I come in! As your Local Support Coordinator based right here in Galway, I am your 24/7 point of contact. From the initial Garda Vetting process to the student's departure, I am available to answer questions and ensure everything runs smoothly.
