The University of Galway Taekwon-Do club is a Member of Taekwon-Do Ireland. TaeKwon-Do is one of the most widely practised martial arts in the world.
It is both a style of combat and international sport of Korean origin. We at the NUI Galway TKD club are one of the largest clubs on campus, awarded Best Club of 2003 and also 2004 by the Student Union. It is with a heavy heart I must announce the following.
Mr Spelman, unfortunately passed away on Sunday.
We offer our condolences to Mr Spelman's family who knows of how much he dedicated his life to TaeKwon Do and our club especially.
He was a pivotal part of the club being a member from white belt to becoming head instructor. He received his 4th dan in 2013 and the following year he became an examiner.
He has trained many students over his 25 plus years as part of this club. Members from all over the world and all walks of life. From beginning at white belt to there black belts and beyond.
He loved this art from the day he first started and always kept that love.
He was the life of the party on club nights out always up for a dance, especially his single ladies dance when we would request the song to be played.
He is sorely missed and will never be forgotten.
Rest in Peace Mr Spelman

Just a heads up that the taekwondo club is having our AGM this Thursday, the 24th of April.
