The short game, from 100 yards in, equates for just under 70 percent of golf shots!

We decided to make use of some old railway sleepers and build ourselves a bunker and add a pitching area with targets at 15 , 30 and 50 yards!

Sometimes you just need to change something very simple to achieve great results in ball flight!

This lesson I had with proves just that!

Ronan came to me struggling with a hook which made his golf ball finish left of his intended target.

Together we identified his right hand grip to be the root cause of this undesired ball flight.

Picture 1 shows Ronans grip when he arrived to me with the left hand in a very good position and the right hand in a very strong position. The ball flight with this grip is shown as the "undefined" numbers in picture 3 as we wanted to get a base with which to compare the changes.

The Negative (-) number indicates how far left of target Ronans golf ball finished with the average number in blue indicating it to be 17 yards left of target.

Picture 2 shows the changes we made to Ronans grip. We allowed the left hand to remain the same as it had been in a good position however the right hand we moved more on top of the golf club rather than underneath.

I allowed Ronan to hit a series of shots with this more neutral grip which are indicated by the 6 iron numbers. Amazingly Ronan managed to achieve 0 yards offline on average.

Once Ronan felt like he had the feeling of the new grip he hit a series of shots which are indicated by 6 irons #2. Ronan went from hitting a good to a nice powerful Draw that finished on target by the end of the lesson.

A grip is something very personal and not an easy thing to change however Ronan came into the lesson with an open mind and achieved some great results! Well done Ronan 👏
