Demonstrating a ‘slider’ strike where we use the club sliding across the ground to produce a ‘dead’ ball speed and a soft landing. Getting good at this shot also develops a great control of arc height.

Start of off season work.

Swing is in a great place so we hammered basics and continued the theme of the club staying more in front during both backswing and downswing.

Setup check
- weaker right hand grip
- left eye @ the back of the ball
- upper centre just behind lower centre

Swing keys
- arms more out in front halfway back
- left knee and hip stable in backswing (tends to work inwards and downwards)

PUTTING PROCESS

I love this clip from Rick Sheils and Brad Faxon, where Brad speaks about a couple of great points

1) make sure to train your routine on the putting green before you play. You do not want the first hole to be the first time all day that you go through your process

2) Evaluate yourself on your process. Putting has a binary outcome (it goes in or it doesn’t) so it can be tempting to evaluate yourself based on whether or not the ball goes in. Instead, evaluate yourself on whether or not you did the things that you can control as you intended.

Working on an improved strike with wedges. Tendency was towards the toe which reduces the ball speed and causes some short misses.

We discussed his tendency to load too far in to his right heel which would cause the toe strikes so this drill / feel with the force pedals and stick that I’m holding helps us create a more centred strike.

Irish Open 2026 Doonbeg

in their first DP Tour event showed themselves that it’s only a matter of time before they end up out there more regularly. Proud of both guys this week.
